Government of National Unity the way to go for Zimbabwe
27 Nov 2017 at 10:14hrs | Views
A new dawn of Zimbabwean political history has taken a new twist with the arrival of British representatives who have seen a quick change of Zimbabwe's political situation.
Efforts to re- engage with the former friends looks to be underway. There were separate meetings held recently between the President Emmerson Mnangagwa , MDC- T leader Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai, and Dr Joyce Runaida Mujuru of the National People's Party with the UK Minister of Africa and seems GNU is on cards giving a ray of hope to the suffering majority of the people.
A Government of National Unity is a broad coalition government consisting of all parties (or all major parties) in the legislature during this time of national crisis where the economy needs to be fixed.
Surprisingly the Zimbabwe's currency and stock markets have responded positively to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces intervention that saw Mugabe resigning and replaced by President Emmerson Munangagwa.
Zimbabwe needs nothing more than such kind of a government in order to allow healing and opening a new chapter of economic emancipation. In this case Zanu PF cannot go it alone and are even pushing for a transitional government.
This is a national problem which needs a national solution and it is foolhardy to assume that Zanu PF can go it alone. Everyone in the opposition has progressive ideas which can make a difference in this new government.
I would like to believe that the President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a reformist and will look at this new development critically. Our people are so divided on political, economic and social grounds across the country and there is need to unite them.
People are not united on tribal grounds for an example there is still hatred between the people from Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland and Matebeleland. There is no nation that can move forward under such conditions.
The Ndebele in Zimbabwe have several grievances which need urgent address.Politically, they are seeking greater autonomy.
A few are dreaming of separatism, but that seems limited to an old guard minority. In addition, they would like more equal civil rights and a change in the Shona civil servants who administer the area. Economically, they would like more public spending in Matabeleland and greater economic opportunities.
Culturally and morally they would like greater promotion of their life ways and especially their language. In addition, they want a greater sense of group security.
The massacres of the 1980s still haunt them, and they are seeking an apology as well as peace of mind about the future. We need to built bridges , infrastructural projects that can uplift their lives.
The post Mugabe era should not entertain the divide and rule tactic to advance a single party's interests. Everyone should be included so that we can break the political impasse in Zimbabwe. The opposition is health in every country or organisation as it keeps checks and balances and that it is not an enemy of the ruling party as what most leaders would like to believe. People should embrace each other though they differ in ideology. The opposition has brilliant ideas, hopes and aspirations of the people they represent.
Zimbabwe is endowed with large mineral deposits like coal, lithium, gold , platinum etc and we have the capacity to grow our economy only if the people are united and singing from the same hymn book.
Zimbabwe's men and women are hard working people who have the ability to take Zimbabwe and its citizens into the next level but it takes something special for any one of them to be the chosen one and in this case, there is the feeling that we Zimbabweans, should be one people. We have very experienced people in the diaspora and a lot of expertise who have no any political party that they swear allegiance to but are very ready to rally behind anyone who has got the fuel and willpower to steer the wonderful Zimbabwean ship into a motion.
I have the feeling that with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Morgan Tsvangirayi, Joyce Mujuru and others surely we might have the much awaited working country.
It is, of course not going to be a stroll in the park though but if people give them time and patience, they might be our Moses to get us out of troubled waters of Egypt. To the people of Zimbabwe, we should put aside our political affiliations and give support that our leaders deserve at this kind of time regardless of religion, race, tribe or political differences.
We are all Zimbabweans whether white, coloured, black or whatever colour and we shall remain Zimbabweans with one goal, one vision, one aim in mind.
We need to build a better Zimbabwe for our futures and that of our children and generations to come. We can do this, but only if we work together not as Team Lacoste or G40 but Team Zimbabwe.
Lets all say no to corruption, no to tribal conflicts, no to racial segregation, no to political motivated violence. We are a peaceful nation and we must continue being a peaceful nation forever.
To His Excellency, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, you must carry your duties diligently without fear and favour and discard this slogan "Pasi nemhanduuuuu" literally meaning "Down with the enemy" You are now the father of this beautiful nation called Zimbabwe
You will face some resistance when navigating the rugged and rocky terrain but with the support from all the opposition you shall guide our beautiful country and its citizens from the case basket to bread basket. We cannot afford to be entrenched again into poverty like before.
