Could Mnangagwa change himself to change the country economy around?

30 Nov 2017 at 00:15hrs | Views
There are a few political lessons we need learn as Zimbabweans. To begin with, unlike South Africans, we regarded politics a business for the down trodden and were not so smart since we concerned ourselves with business of academic Excellency raising an ugly snake against freedoms. It has always reminded me of Ugandan intellectuals who at seeing Idi Amin rise to power sought reasoning as a means to influence him for best. For start Idi Amin had love for intellectuals merely as pupets to promote his ego not to help him rule never ever. We finally got to realize that many of our intellectuals in Uganda were disappearing because the general was applying Machiavellian style of elimination by fear process.

Is Mnangagwa able to learn and introduce change? One of the mysteries of Atap Moi when Mzee Jomo Kenyatta died was that he rose to power strong because he had tolerated and watched tribal animosity at the expense of national unity and development. Whether we like it or not Arap Moi run one of the smooth governments with little animosity of tribes on each other till once more eminent tribe took power namely, the Kikuyu through Kibaki then Mzee's son so less deserving yet filthy rich with a clout of a name nothing else.

Its best that Mnangagwa has not entered into an argument bout of if he is good or bad by admitting he is as bad as people have heard. We only need remember that the bad often do not admit for fear of punishment. But those blamed often from guilty desire to repay, just Like Zachious of the Bible, A tax collector who by the desire to see Jesus climbed a tree and captured Jesus attention hundred per centum more that any Jewish crowd ever did in spite of the fact Jesus was a Jew. Zachious promised to repay those he grieved through a bad tax system then in place, and to make good with all for the sake of progress. Emmerson Mnangagwa is a lawyer, from my little interaction with him in hey days of independence he struck me as though he cared and often times thought higher than the king, Mr. Mugabe then. He, however, like Arap Moi understood his boss well not to jeopardize his (ED) future bright hopes for Zimbabwe.

Putting a balance sheet of forgiveness forward since it is the way we have chosen so expensively but admirably better than any other way provided restitution is done, a quick and swift modality to build the process of restitution needs constitute the mode of our life onwards by grace. The many broken and wounded citizens need not only job assurances but peace and harmony assurance beyond any call of duty given an ugly past Mugabe Zanu put the nation through.

It's not Mnangagwa who needs changing; it's both the people and Emmerson Mnangagwa who need changing. Both those of us watched by from abroad and gave help to relatives as well as wrote strong against Mugabe and those who ruined the country for a very length time shamelessly need think and consider the way forward. If we become proactive and begin work on both ideas and views without bottlenecks of threat of punishment and killing but trust any in error against the law to courts, the country will rise beyond expectations in shortest rebuild economy history.

Admirably we have to admit that ED has begun astonishingly well if he keeps hunting for fearless men who will not seek for his post but will help him improve the country economy, human rights broken record, morality and corruption. That maturity will come on us as we see a reliable court system, re-born police system, a checkable executive and a legislature of prudence and dialogue on what is good for Zimbabwe. We have to have a sense of having had a turn and give room to others serve the nation the best ways how. ED is right in looking for people Who fear God, of Higher integrity and moral record and with Training and Experience to perform and respect accountability. He is right to appreciate friends and encourage them to keep doing so. Except that all Zimbabweans now are his closest allies not enemies ever.

Let's help ED and refer him to scriptures as follows: "The Appointment of Judges 13 The next day Moses was settling disputes among the people, and he was kept busy from morning till night. 14 When Jethro saw everything that Moses had to do, he asked, "What is all this that you are doing for the people? Why are you doing this all alone, with people standing here from morning till night to consult you?" 15 Moses answered, "I must do this because the people come to me to learn God's will. 16 When two people have a dispute, they come to me, and I decide which one of them is right, and I tell them God's commands and laws." 17 Then Jethro said, "You are not doing this right. 18 You will wear yourself out and these people as well. This is too much for you to do alone. 19 Now let me give you some good advice, and God will be with you. It is right for you to represent the people before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 You should teach them God's commands and explain to them how they should live and what they should do. 21 But in addition, you should choose some capable men and appoint them as leaders of the people: leaders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. They must be God-fearing men who can be trusted and who cannot be bribed. 22 Let them serve as judges for the people on a permanent basis. They can bring all the difficult cases to you, but they themselves can decide all the smaller disputes. That will make it easier for you, as they share your burden. 23 If you do this, as God commands, you will not wear yourself out, and all these people can go home with their disputes settled." (NIV Exodus 18)

The Constitution needs re-vist on terms such as Presidential Tenure if we mean well and subscribe to being all equal in the face of our country's laws. It may be Zanu or MDC but for as long as free and fair contesting in elections is assured and there is barring of one man show over two terms of ten years at any one point, society has safeguards on which to raise their complaint and seek remedial action. Soldiers need encouragement to remain professional than political constitutional watchdogs than chaperone of individuals they like. Granted, the liberation armed struggle was a one off process which need not continue in the manner it was carried then, but to change in order to suite circumstances and times in which we live. This education is both for civilians and military to understand so they can do their job without political alliance except with the law. Our laws are greater than any political organization that is what we want to hear defense forces speak on.

We can debate its importance but rest assured it will not be long if we do not divest the defence forces from dogmatism on party ideology to respecting the flag and constitution than have alliances with political parties and individuals, that defence forces will enter into the ground of defending persons than constitution. November 2017 was not a defense of the constitution event but a defence of fracture in the Zanu political party. It has given us ideas on who can do what and should encourage us to remove fear from our politics and inject participation as a process of involvement.

When the political climate is tuned right all other institutions that take a lead from politics will flourish without a doubt. Government will have a role and not be an Octopus encompassing everything but doing nothing in providing direction but cover inefficiency and corrupt tendencies. What gives people guarantees to violate their laws is not good police force but a corrupt and crocked leadership beginning with number one office in the land.

Emmerson D Mnangagwa is right to ask for a moratorium on externalization of funds so regularization is obtained and order established and he has, like in any leadership code stipulations, to begin with him (ED) if there are funds that had found way out of the country either through friends or external shareholding in companies abroad however operating in Zimbabwe. It can only make sense and help our situation hereafter. We accept many of us have gone astray and committed acts against Zimbabwe one way or other. If we have to start lets be magnanimous but accountable. We do it for the sake of the future, more so for our children and grandchildren who must in future review our 2018 Magna Carter in Zimbabwe with admiration on our courage and conviction without fear or favour..

Appointment of people is very important provided we know who they are with an accountable historical record of their past. The ills in the days of nationalism are that Nationalists turned into small idols and in some cases reduced our traditional chiefs into nominal community watchdogs. Destroying the traditional values for personal glorification of Zanu's Occult Mr, Mugabe was exactly what happened in Zimbabwe. To see change come has to be safeguarded with prudence, hard work, honesty, integrity, accountability and some disquiet to Zanu eminence as the author of falsehood and decay.

Change in Zimbabwe will come from our willingness to change and watch those doing better excel under provision of the laws as long as they create more employment and reward people to own decent homes and have a happy life in Zimbabwe. Any country leader surrounded by good people, who value ethics of being law abiding and fearless to point out when breaking law is on the increase, can change. The problem is how many of us have really, really, changed?

The dynamics of change also point to the plurality of politics and the rules of playing the game. We cannot grow stronger from suspicion on each other. You cannot expect me to trust you when you have an army of separate soldiers to guard against you as if to say your trust of me is only when I am under chain. When I disagree with a president I do not do so to invite an army of soldiers at my door and end up being a prisoner for my views which elsewhere should be rewarded as intellectualism. Our environment is toxic but with good intents all this will be history. It is regrettable to hear of concerns by army commander that media is causing sensationalism. Media is an important component of freedom and independence of thinker development.

Change is coming and could be even much better when people under freedom vote for who they believe could deliver best for a new dispensation in the next eight or so months during the national election under new government. This change though has to be the change authored by the majority of Zimbabweans in their diversity across the country divide.
