Recently the former Zipra intelligence supremo, Dumiso Dabengwa, said Russia and UK could possibly be covertly supporting Munangagwa so he wins the 2018 elections. Two weeks ago l said the same thing urging the opposition to work with people who can counter this . If they are not careful the external forces will influence out come of 2018 elections.
The Russian President is a power hungry despot trying to exert influence globally.Zimbabwe needs international friends but not a reincarnate of Stalin and Hitler combined .Their interests, besides countering the West, are driven by what they stand to benefit in the long run should the Junta stay in power after the elections. Russia wants minerals in Zimbabwe and the Junta is willing to mortgage the country's natural resources.
Zanu pf is only interested in staying in power not in people. Just look at how people are barely surviving yet they are enjoying the fruits of independence as a clique of demagogues. The world's big financial institutions can't keep lending them, how will they pay back? This is were Russians step in with promises of unrealistic mega deals that never see the end of the day.
The UK interests might be driven by fear of a new government that wants closure on Gukurahundi. The then British High Commissioner to Zimbabwe during Gukurahundi knew what was happening as barbaric atrocities were being committed in parts of Matebeleland as well as Midlands areas. The then Minister of State Security our current President briefed the British constantly.
Britain could not stop the atrocities because their kith and kin were not harmed, after all it was an internal matter the informed High Commissioner told them.
They would rather keep the lid closed on troves of information that expose their complicity. This means having the current junta leader as their preferred choice .
The opposition might bring thousands of people at their rallies but if no electoral reforms are implemented 2018 will be a huge disappointment to Zimbabwean people who have suffered under Zanu pf tyranny for so long.As the saying goes forewarned is forearmed, MDC and other opposition must up their game. They are up against a cult that wants to rule forever.
