Chamisa is missing the bullet train

09 Sep 2018 at 07:34hrs | Views
If you snooze, you lose. Somebody should have told Nelson Chamisa to stop hitting the snooze button, when he was trying to continue dreaming his dreams of July 29th, 2018. One day before our harmonised elections he could still claim that he will be the next President of Zimbabwe.

But alas, reality may be as harsh a wakeup-call as a bucket of cold water in the middle of the night. After a month of uncertainty, the Constitutional Court declared ED winner of the elections and thus rightfully President of Zimbabwe. A few days later, Parliament was sworn in – including all the MDC representatives who were elected. While ED set out to get the Zimbabwean train back on track, Nelson continued to dream about the masses that attended his rallies and who allegedly are proof enough he won the elections.

And we all know that some dreams are just too beautiful to ever want to wake up again. So instead of organising an opposition, Nelson set out to organise "Thank you" rallies, which are also supposed to defend their vote. Meanwhile, and obviously unimpressed by this helpless move by the leader of the MDC-Alliance, ED presented his cabinet which is symbolic of the new dispensation: Old wood was chucked out, fresh and diverse faces brought in, a healthy mix of technocrats and politicians to tackle the problems of the country.

It is as if ED, the conductor of the bullet train bringing Zimbabwe forward, blew the whistle one last time, ready to drive off. And Nelson Chamisa, the big orator, refuses to get on, he isn't even at the train station trying to engage and improve things. He is still in his Harvest House, snoozing and dreaming about the beautiful world before July 30th, back when he could still claim that he would be the next Zimbabwean President.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but Nelson Chamisa is missing the bullet train. Luckily, all of us are already on it.
