Drive to arrive safely

Another serious bus accident, another national disaster, more funerals and more orphans. Is it about mad men 'flying on the road' or a case of half baked drivers behind the wheels?

The Smart/Bolt Buses accident outside Rusape is gut-wrenching and very sad, may the souls of those who perished rest in eternal peace. Sometime back buses used to ply their routes according to set timetables resulting in no need to travel at break-neck speeds.

Kombis could also be fitted with speed regulating gadgets to avoid unnecessary accidents. Bus operators must be advised to rest their drivers after long trips to avoid fatigue and drowsiness.

Most accidents are a result of human error hence avoidable, let's put effort to reach destinations safely. Underage drivers should never be allowed behind the wheels of public transport vehicles. We need mature seasoned drivers who have seen it all.

Now we hear the crew from one of the accident buses 'melted away' after the horrific crash, that shows immaturity. Professional bus crews would stay to assist the injured and the trapped. We pray that the injured get well soon and may the bereaved families find comfort in the Lord.
