Provide supplementary feeding to all schools

03 Apr 2019 at 15:08hrs | Views
The announcement by the Grain Millers Association to provide supplementary feeding to schools in Cyclone hit areas is very laudable and commendable. The move will go a long way in alleviating the suffering and quickening the healing.

In view of the drought that has ravaged the countryside this rain season, the nudging from conscience calls for same to be done nationwide. Looking from afar at maize fields in Chipinge one would be mistaken for thinking its spring onion crop under cultivation.

The crops have wilted badly thereby crushing all hopes for a meaningful harvest. Travels to all provinces of Zimbabwe reveal a sorry sight of wilted crops and dying livestock. With the aforementioned in mind, it would be a step in the right direction for government and other entities to join hands with the Grain Millers Association in providing the much needed supplementary feeding to all schools.

There may be a general food shortage for school children in all provinces. The way to a child's brain is through the stomach, let's look after our future workers and leaders well. Another vulnerable group is that of the aged, most of whom lead lonely and miserable lives.

The digital fast pace life of today leaves little or no room for the elderly or so it seems. Everyone is busy chasing after everything with little care for the old people.
