Thata Nomazulu
I read with shame the article by mama Nomazulu Thata which was a response to Dr Mavaza's article on marriage in the diaspora. I am a consistent follower of Nomazulu Thata's writings and I regard her to be a thoroughly seasoned writer and a respectable fundi. Having said that, I think she's not so gifted on the issues of black/African family life. Her position around black husbands is heavily biased towards their white counterparts.
The issue of migration has compromised our cultural values to alarming levels.
Once our women cross over to those first-world economies in search of greener pastures, they immediately start to despise and to look at their own blackness with shame and utter disdain - this is tantamount to self-hatred! Whites have their own culture and a way of running homes, family life and marriages... this is divinely ordained and must be respected as such.
And I respect whites for upholding their culture regardless of where they find themselves in. For example, if they come to live amongst the blacks in Africa, you don't see them start to denounce and insult their culture back home because they are in another part of the world.
The tendency by our own to start hating and despising their God-ordained way of life - because they have migrated - is the root cause of many evils bedevilling our societies today. Most societies in Africa are patriarchal and we're fine with that - our forefathers embraced it and things moved smoothly.
Now the issue of colonialism, globalization, technological advancement has created a lot of confusion for many cultures especially here in Africa.
Patriarchy directs that the man is the head and provider, protector and the guide of the family, and the mother on the other hand is to assist in carrying out these duties. .. and she does so with joy to raise children who will grow to be responsible members of society.
Now that we're on a different part of the world, we can't begin to see our good fathers, back home, as domineering, harsh, demanding, control freaks, selfish, socially illiterate, rude, stubborn etc.
This kind of behaviour is an attack on Africa and blackness in general.
Soon we will see people like mama Thata, because they live amongst whites, advocating for homosexuality in Africa in the name of "liberating" our black women.
You start by tearing down the marriage institution and then proceed to introduce homosexuality through the back door called "liberation" of the black woman.
Skin lightening, hair extensions, celibacy, divorce, homosexuality, "independent" teenage hood and all other ills plaguing Africa emanate from self-hatred imposed on us by the white superiority advocates, who are themselves black and have grown to hate their divine ordained blackness! Masidede kulemikhuba bafowethu, sihlukane nokuzenyeza, sivuke siziqhenye ngobuthina mahlabezulu!
