Democracy should prevail in MDC-T election

19 Oct 2020 at 06:25hrs | Views
I AM praying that candidates for all the positions at the MDC-T extraordinary congress will organise one or two public debates so that their followers see through each of them and make informed choices.

Elections in a democratic movement should be a shining example to the ruling party of what internal party democracy really means.

When people fight and defeat each other on the altar of ideas, then the hope for a better democratic dispensation for Zimbabwe is very high.

So far the candidates, who were mentioned, are Douglas Mwonzora, Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri. If the three can be persuaded to give democracy a chance at a public debate, I will be very happy.

If MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa was going to contest this election, it would be most ideal for the four candidates to battle it out in a public debate, moderated by neutrals or experts.

If everyone, who is keen to lead the movement meets the criteria, then they must be given the chance to contest and contribute to the democratic process.

Whoever wins should be accorded chance to lead. The losers must be courageous enough to congratulate the winners without any hard feelings.
