'A Zimbabwe with a new Constitution'
11 Jun 2013 at 10:43hrs | Views
Cecil John Rhodes believed that the land he declared conquered would forever be in his hands, but the gallantry of the Zimbabwean people proved him wrong. We were able to destroy the enemy who was superior to us in numbers and equipment, because we are a people of bravery and mercy and because we cooperated and knew the strategy of war and we had our country at heart.
We are now freed from the oppressive foreign yoke (the Lancaster house Constitution) and eternal servitude, we shall forever remember those heroic warriors who, determined not to surrender the great charge passed on to them by their fathers, the likes of Cde Herbert Chitepo, Joshua Nkomo, Josiah M.Tongogara and many others became martyrs, shedding their blood and breaking their bones for the freedom of the land they loved. Their heroic deeds will remain recorded in our Zimbabwean history.
No human lips can express the gratitude which I feel to the merciful God who has enabled me to pen down this script on this day, the day His Excellency, Cde R.G.Mugabe signed the Zimbabwe draft constitution into law, of which the angels in heaven and creatures on earth could neither have thought of nor known about. Before everything else, I want to tell you and to make you understand that this is a day on which a fresh chapter of history of the New Dzimbabwe begins. In this new era, new work is commencing, which is the duty of all of us to perform.
How many young men, women and native people in general whom the Colonial Regime pitilessly massacred during colonial rule? How many hectares of fertile land which were forcefully taken from our fore fathers by the settlers? Surely, this injustice needed to be corrected and it was long overdue. Taking thirty years to correct this injustice was a grave error our part. The blood and bones of those who were killed with spades and pickaxes, of those who were split with axes and hammered to death, pierced with bayonets, clubbed and stoned, of those who were burned alive in their homes with their little children, of those who perished of hunger and thirst in prison, have been crying for justice. Everybody knows that this act of barbarism and cruelty was not perpetrated in Zimbabwe alone, but also in the African States. There is hardly anyone who has not been caught and beaten, kicked, humiliated and or imprisoned.
The misfortunes, tribulations and afflictions, which befell us during the past colonial years and which cannot be recounted and enumerated in detail, will be a great lesson to us all and, with unity, tranquillity, cooperation and love engraved in our hearts, will be a great incentive which will help us in the construction of our country which I believe we all have in mind. In the New Dzimbabwe, I wish all of us, the citizens of the Republic of Zimbabwe to be a people undivided and endowed with freedom and equality before the law.
Let us join His Excellency, Cde R.G.Mugabe in his efforts for the prosperity of the country, for the riches of the people, for the development of agriculture, commerce, education, learning, for the protection of the life and resources of Our people, and for the perfection, on modern lines, of the country's administration.
We were longing for this New Dzimbabwe with a government which will protect Our nation and make it respectable by guaranteeing the liberty of the people and freedom of conscience through this new supreme law.
Lastly I say, let us unite with our allies in everlasting friendship and amity in order to be able to stand against the godless and cruel dragon which has newly risen (colonial masters) and which is oppressing mankind.
LONG LIVE OUR DZIMBABWE! LONG LIVE OUR FREEDOM!
