'2013 most defining year for Telecel,' says Dr James Makamba

Greetings to you all!

Once again, it is that time of the year when we stop and reflect on the events of the year. Needless to say, it has been a year full of milestone activities for our company. I would dare say it is probably the most defining year of our history.

A lot of key achievements have been attained and I am happy to note we have stayed very focused on our goal to bring you at the forefront of all our activities. Of particular note is the successful launch of products and services including Telecel Red and Telecel Business. These platforms will enable us to adequately address your intimate communications needs on a more sustainable footing.

We have also run a number of campaigns which have all confirmed that we are the best value-for-money service provider in the country. Needless to say, we have seen competition now copying most of our offerings. I note with satisfaction the vastly improved network coverage extending into the rural areas and the launch of new retail shops to cater for you over a wider geographic area. We have installed a state-of-the-art Call Centre system and our call handling capacity has greatly improved.

The year has not been without its challenges. The economic conditions have greatly compromised our customers' disposable incomes but we have viewed this as a challenge to raise our game in seeking for and affording you the value-for-money desperately needed in these conditions. We struggled to surmount various obstacles and probably the biggest one was to get the organisation re-licenced for the next 20 years.

This is a huge vote of confidence by the authorities in us and we pledge not to fail them. The re-licencing has also come with a huge contribution from you as you have continued to place your faith and trust in us in the most trying circumstances. We are gratified by this support and it is our promise that we will continue to deliver the quality service for which we are renowned and have attained several awards.

We have several initiatives we are working on which will be introduced to you over the festive period and early into the new year. We will continue to place you at the centre of all we do. Please provide us with the feedback to allow us to better serve you and your needs.

As the holidays approach, let me take the opportunity of wishing you and your families well. Please stay safe.

Thank you and may God bless you my friends.
