Dokora is killing the education sector

27 Feb 2014 at 17:17hrs | Views

I have been watching with keen interest in comparison the two ministers of Education the current minister of primary and secondary education Lazarus Dokora and his visionary predicessor David Coltart. Despite Coltart being a non teacher by profession he seemed a better minister so far. He resurrected from the jaws of death the education sector which had also been shown the grave yard by Chigwedere too. Coltart brought in measures to ensure that teachers go to work and defended the issue of incentives.

Even while his pem seccretary the directionless constance Chigwamba was busy demonising them , he never minced his words and what happened is that the well oiled education machine frictionlessly moved. Coltart brought about the only textbooks that pupils from all over Zimbabwe are using today , even pupils in Tsholotsho have them , even those at the remote Mapanga school in Murewa has them . What a directionful minister.

The coming of Dokora whom l think cannot reign in her permanent secretary who even give directives over the phone made life unbearable for the parents ,pupils and teachers. Policies are changed without even consultations and we wonder whom they are really serving.

A good example is the simmering war with parents over extra lessons , can u ban lessons when all who are affected love them . Thats why the parents are writing peritions daily to their offices because rules are made for the people and not vice versa. let those who want extra lessons get them , besides economically empowering the teachers it also enhances pass rates.l had a young brother who went for them at a certain school while he was learning in rural areas and he got 4 units and being the onlat hirural school . Can l tell him nomore extra lessons when they worked wonders.

What will be left is for him to come and also tell those elite schools to lower their fees to unacceptable levels.
I also look at the attitude of this minister towards the very employees in their ministry , whenever they are on television or paper they talk of negative things about teachers , they behave as if they have never been teachers before . Have you ever heard Chihuri talking of police , he gives them praises every time that zimbabwe police is the best in the world and so on . Why not Dokora and Chigwamba to their educationist. munangagwa and chiwenga cannot stop praising their troops and staff daily but its the opposite with the education sector.

Recently they banned the civies which were there before while teachers are crying at that corner. The issue of incentives a legacy of Coltart has been ruthlessly thwarted , if schools can afford to give them leave them alone .
The education sector has been put in confusion by these directionless leaders.

They are real archtects of bhora musango because look at these simple statistics , the number of pupils at school is likely to be affected by their war policies and the pupils and their parents will definately dislike the current government. this is real bhora musango. If the masses are not happy because your polices then l wonder whom they are serving we are against their policies we dont like them .

A point to Note is what will they do to teachers who achieved quality results this previous exam period , yes i mean individual teachers because there had zeros and so on .

Imagine a teacher at Monte Cassino who made school get a 100% passrate , what of teachers at Chancellor Primary school and Dudley Hall school who had 42 and 38 pupils with four units at grade 7 respectively thats a rare feat which need recognition .

This is a home work to these so called learned leaders .
