Africa should strongly support Uganda's stance on homosexuality

When God created a man, he later realised that he also needed to create a woman so that she becomes a man`s comforter, hence, the two would become a husband and a wife. God did not create a man to marry a man so that the two could become a husband and wife, neither did he created a woman to marry a woman so that they become husband and wife. As such any marriage which happens outside what God has proclaimed to be right is culturally and religiously condemned.

It is surprising that there are some countries in the world which want to stretch some issues of freedom of association to extreme levels. They want to make us believe that everyone is free to choose who to associate with, to the extent that they should be allowed to indulge in homosexuality as a way of fulfilling their freedom of association. To them, homosexuality is part and parcel of their freedom of association; hence, they should be left alone to enjoy their freedom of association without any hassles from those opposing this heinous practice.

So the stance taken by the Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to criminalize homosexuality in his country should be applauded. He has shown the world that homosexuality should not be embraced in any way as it is inhumane to indulge in such unholy alliances. Africans should applaud this move by Uganda and make sure that homosexuality is buried underground and that it has no room in Africa. It is good that President Robert Mugabe has come out openly supporting the move taken by President Museveni of criminalizing homosexuality. President Mugabe who has been denouncing homosexuality for quite some time did not lose any space of time in throwing his weight behind what President Museveni has done. President Mugabe agreed that the Ugandan leader has done an excellent job by making sure that homosexuality has no room in Uganda and that one should not sacrifice his/her values just because he/she wants western aid.

Of course in Africa a lot of countries are not in support of homosexuality although they are yet to enact laws criminalizing that act. So the move taken by Uganda should be applauded by all African countries so that the western countries would not nail Uganda. African countries should come out in full force to support Uganda so that she is not put on economic sanctions by western countries in the same way like what Zimbabwe went through when the country engaged in the land reform program.

Zimbabwe went through a torrid time when the country saw it fit to compulsory acquire land from those with multiple-farm ownership so that it could be equitably redistributed to the landless people. For that reason Zimbabwe got the wrath of the western countries as those with multiple-farm ownership were mostly the few whites in the country and this was misinterpreted by the western countries as if Zimbabwe was driving the whites out of their land. As such Zimbabwe was put on sanctions since 2000 up to this day.

As such the move taken by President Museveni to criminalize homosexuality in Uganda has already received outcry from western countries with USA government threatening to cut aid to the Ugandan government as a way of making the country reverse what has been already signed into law. The USA which has got a big brother mentality, is now making noise over that move taken by Uganda`s recent anti-gay law and has been pressurizing Russia, which is also against homosexuality to drop that idea. So the African countries should follow President Mugabe`s move in which he has already shown support to the move taken by Uganda. Failure by the African countries to support the Ugandan government would see that country being starved off of balance of payment by international institutions. The USA has already influenced the World Bank to withhold the release of ninety million dollars (US$90m) development fund to Uganda as a reaction over the anti-gay law by that country.

So such moves by the USA government, which wants to pressurize African countries to embrace homosexuality for them to get aid, should be condemned by African countries and they should also close their markets for USA as a reaction and a sign that they are in solidarity with Uganda. African countries should be aware that they are independent governments who should not be told what to do by western countries. They should use the unity and solidarity which they embraced during the armed struggles, when they managed to fight and defeat the york of colonization.

Africa should declare to the west that there would be no Berlin Conference again and that the scramble for Africa is long gone hence Africa can decide its destiny without European and American interference. The issue of Africa being taken for a ride by the western countries should be challenged by African unity which would make it necessary for Uganda to carry on with her affairs without fearing western backlash.

So, it is good and appreciable to find a leader like President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who defied all odds and showed the world that western aid is not the one which determines ubuntu/unhu among African people in general and Uganda in particular. President Museveni should be strongly supported by all African countries who value ubuntu/unhu.  He has shown the world that he cannot comprise the essence of ubuntu/unhu for the sake of getting aid from the western countries. After all, Africa is endowed with vast natural resources which, if the continent could manage them well, they can sustain the African continent without problems. It only needs the courage of African leaders to show the west that they can do well without foreign aid.

The Zimbabwean scenario could stand as a case study by the African countries. When Zimbabwe was imposed by illegal sanctions by the western countries, the country turned to the East and for the past decade the country managed to thwart the pressure of regime change propagated by the western countries in conjunction with the opposition parties in Zimbabwe. It is not long before the west comes hard on Uganda calling for regime change in retaliation over the ant-gay law which is in place there. So the only thing which Africa in general and Uganda in particular is to shift the issue of economic cooperation with the west to the east where there are a lot of countries against homosexuality. African countries can also start by having alliances with countries like Russia and China who are also against homosexuality as a way of showing the west that they cannot dictate to them what to do. Africa can build strong relationships with those countries from the east so that they are not bullied by the west.

The west should realise that there are a lot of things they support that happen in this world that are wrong as sex is for making children. Men should sleep with women so that they fulfill what God created them to do. Those who go for homosexuality are the once who claim that there is no God. Should we legalize cocaine because crack cocaine smokers deserve equal rights, should we change the law regarding underage sex because people that sleep with kids want rights. So homosexuality should not be embraced. Africa should not be intimidated by the west as to let western culture erode African culture.

So, we say Obama keep your money and we will keep our ubuntu/unhu and our abundant resources.
