Biti betrays the struggle

If media reports telling us that Tsvangirai and Biti have buried the hatchet and are now living in the same tent are anything to go by, then Biti has betrayed the struggle. The honourable thing for Biti is to clear himself publicly, lest he be viewed as a betrayer of higher magnitude than that of Nyathi of the Nyadzonia massacre.

We have heard so many theories about the joint press conference where Tsvangirai said that they had resolved the dispute with the leadership renewal team. Some say it was a fundraising tactic meant to hoodwink donors into believing that there is now unity in the MDC and thereby inject the much needed funds into the party coffers. Whatever the case, why would Biti facilitate his antagonist's fundraising project? We wanted to hear Biti endorsing what Tsvangirai said on the press conference.

Biti should tell us if what initially separated him from Tsvangirai has been bridged. What kind of a commander who accepts a peace deal when all his soldiers have been killed? Why was Biti agreeable to the unity resolution when many party leaders at various levels have been sacrificed for him? As everybody is asking, what kind of a peace pact is reached when the unlawful suspension of party leaders is still upheld? If Biti was a serious politician, he should have demanded the retaining of the suspended provincial executives and Mangoma.

I strongly feel that Biti is betraying the struggle. This man really had the support of many people of substance in the party but his cowardice is going to cost him very soon. On the day that Mangoma was suspended, many thought Biti would say something in defence of the leadership renewal proposal. Many wanted to support him but he was mum as if he is not part of the team, only to rumble later at some press conference. Come out clear Mr Biti, let us hear you speak on this matter. Mangoma cannot be sacrificed for nothing.
