Mugabe forced to face reality of his failed rule
09 Aug 2014 at 18:36hrs | Views
For years Mugabe pretended not to notice the country's economic decline and the hardships it was brought. On Friday he had his nose rubbed into it that even he could not pretend not to notice. He was supposed to deliver the keynote address at the Zanu PF Youth League Congress in Harare but whatever else he was going to talk about was put aside as he was called upon to address a very familiar problem to millions of Zimbabwean homes - starvation.
Mugabe found the party youths were starving. He ended up donating maize meal and meat from his farm in Norton.
"Our people are generous people; you can't tell me even our people could not donate even a cent to this congress," he complained.
Yes Mr President they are a very generous people and they would donate if they had the money; they do not. Millions of our people are now living in abject poverty. Which part of abject poverty do you not understand?
Last month you admitted it yourself, Mr President, that the late Zanu PF grandee Nathan Shamuyarira are been living in abject poverty for decades. You know there are many, many other party grandees like him who are living in abject poverty too. If they are poor how much worse off the ordinary people who have split out by the system decades ago!
34 years of mismanagement, corruption and looting has completely destroyed Zimbabwe's economy. The evidence is there for all to see but Mugabe simply refuses to see. When he is forced to see it, he still blames everyone else except himself for this tragic reality.
"I cannot hire a central committee or even a politburo which is that inept. Aiwa, some of us have come from far; we know what we were doing all the time," he told his gullible youth party members.
The country is in such a mess that 300 000 or 80% of the children have dropped out of school because the parents can hardly afford to feed them much less pay their school fees. 98% of the country's medicines are paid for by donors because the government is broke. The government itself has to borrow money to pay civil servants, etc. And still the man who has presided over all this mess still claims to "know what we were doing all the time"!
No Mr Mugabe, you do not know what you are doing. All you know is how to waste the nation's human and material resources, rig elections and use brute force to impose yourself on the nation.
It is to this day still a great national tragedy that MDC failed to implement the reforms during the GNU years which would have stopped Mugabe rigging the last year's elections. Still now that this Zanu PF regime has failed to rig economic recovery, the regime will be forced to step down whether Mugabe likes it or not. The regime will be forced to go and good riddance!
