Story on Zimbabwe - North Korea deal was a fallacy
07 Sep 2014 at 16:02hrs | Views
On 15 August 2014, The Telescope News of UK carried a story titled "North Korea to secure land in Zimbabwe". In the story it was alleged that the Zimbabwean government was parceling out vast tracks of agricultural land to countries like North Korea, China, Russia, Iran and Libya so that they would assist Zimbabwe to raise up its crop productive rate in the region. It further said that the above-mentioned countries would grow various crops ranging from rice, tobacco, wheat and other crops that would tame the scourge of hunger in the country.
The story which quoted unnamed Zimbabwean government officials as supplying the information to that effect, tried to denounce the land reform as a failure which could only be a success through the intervention of the foreign governments. The Telescope News failed to find real facts on the ground but only wanted to politicize the land reform program in the country the same way as the British government did when it mobilized for the European Union (EU) to impose sanctions on the country in the flimsy reasons that there was no rule of law in Zimbabwe.
In actual fact, Zimbabwe has not parceled out such alleged tracts of agricultural land to any country and the country will never do it in the near future as the government needs that land to be equitably shared among all the Zimbabweans. For that reason it would be naïve for the country to parcel out land to foreign governments when its citizens are still in need of it. For those in the dark and the prophecy of doom like The Telescope News, the land reform would not stop until all the Zimbabwean people are all satisfied.
The story by The Telescope News failed to avail facts as it only relied on imaginary sources because the reason behind the story was to raise unnecessary political matrix meant to tarnish the image of Zimbabwe in the international community. The fact that Zimbabwe carried out the land reform program successfully as it made sure that the land is available to all the people, The Telescope News then jumped in to counter the successful land reform through that false story. This British tabloid failed to tell its readers the true picture of what is happening in the country but chose to mislead the world with unsubstantiated claims as a way of satisfying its political mischief.
It is a fact that the British government has for over a decade now planned regime change and failed in the country and as such it has been using its surrogate supporters and sympathizers to join hands in attacking whatever the Zimbabwean government would be doing. The British government sensing that the land reform was not stoppable reacted by internationalizing a bilateral disagreement between her and Zimbabwe when she mobilized the international community to impose sanctions on the country on the flimsy reasons that the country has no good governance. The story by The Telescope News is so political as the countries said to have been given the massive tracts of agricultural land by the Zimbabwean government are the same countries which are viewed by the western countries as rogue states. The fact that Zimbabwe is viewed as such by the western countries, brings an interesting scenario which shows that the British establishments are still going on with their regime change agenda and they will stop at nothing until they surely realizes that they have really failed. This story clearly shows that the British government through its surrogate tabloids like this one has now run out of ideas and wants to keep on confusing the international community with issues happening in Zimbabwe. They want to see the country going into violence as they have now started to manufacture stories which are not even close to reality.
The international community should stop relying on the British's political madness meant to create confusion in the country but they should realise that Zimbabwe is an independent country which has successfully carried out its land reform program without any assistance from the outside world. The country has managed to make sure that the land is equitably shared among all its citizens. Now it is surprising that The Telescope News failed to tell its readers that Zimbabwe has a bumper harvest this agricultural season as the land reform program bears its fruits but chose to feed its readers some false information.
Some Telescope News readers should be informed that the land reform in this country was a success and that it managed to come up with more than four hundred thousand indigenous black commercial farmers in place of a mere four thousand and five hundred white commercial farmers who were in the whole country. Those white commercial farmers used to monopolize farming as if indigenous black farmers were not capable of doing that. So the land reform program which The Telescope News is trying to tarnish is a success story as people are now enjoying the fruits of that program.
For starters, Zimbabwe cannot hire other countries like those mentioned above to come and do farming here as the new farmers have already managed to show the international community that they are able to grow staple crops and cash crops for the country. This season alone, Zimbabwe is expecting to produce more than one million and five hundred metric tones (1,5million) of maize meal, enough to serve the country from hunger until the next season.
Furthermore the country is also expecting to produce more than one hundred and fifty thousand metric tones of small grains which would also be of assistance to the country in curbing hunger. So if the country is able to produce such amount of food requirements on its own why there is a talk of having other countries coming to grow crops for the country? Is this not cheap politics meant to confuse the international community into believing that the country is reversing the land reform program which it started more than a decade ago?
It is surprising and deceiving for The Telescope News to ignore such important facts on the ground and rushed to come up with a story which is devoid of reality. Zimbabwe cannot be seen relying on foreign countries in growing its staple crops for her people's consumption when she has capable new commercial farmers who are devoted to produce enough food for country consumption and also for export.
This is food for thought for The Telescope News and its readers.
