Official statement on the Scotland independence referendum

17 Sep 2014 at 17:27hrs | Views

The Christian Changemakers is pleased to join the progressive international community in endorsing the Scottish's 18 September Independence Referendum and calling for the Scottish people to overwhelmingly vote YES.

It is our belief that the people of Scotland have a right to self determination and they should overwhelmingly vote YES for their independence.

The Christian Changemakers understands and appreciates that the Right to Self Determination of all peoples is a fundamental human right and thus the people of Scotland should vote for the realization of their right as enshrined in the United Nations Resolution A/RES/67/157 of the December 2012 UN 60th Plenary Meeting.

We also are strongly convinced that the Scottish VOTE YES shall be a realization of the fundamentals of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities adopted by the UN General Assembly resolution 47/135 of 18 December 1992.

It is also our firm believe that the Scottish YES VOTE shall be a huge milestone for the people of Scotland to fully enjoy and realize their development rights as enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on the Right To Development.

Finally we urge the people of Scotland to VOTE YES in Peace and tranquillity and to celebrate their victory in peace too. We also urge the Scottish political, economic and civic leadership to ensure that the ideals of Scottish independence that have been a guiding principle in the advocacy, campaigns and mass mobilization for independence are adhered to and realized for the betterment of the Scottish citizens.

It is our sincere hope that the Scottish leadership shall work extra hard to ensure that its citizens enjoy the fruits of independence they have so much craved and advocated for.
