MDC-T barking on the wrong tree

09 Oct 2014 at 08:02hrs | Views

As MDC-T continuously struggle to gain political popularity, ZANU-PF is at risk of false accusations by this opposition party.

MDC-T claimed that, "We wish to place it on record that the MDC council running Chitungwiza has nothing to do with the current unconstitutional act that will leave thousands homeless and that is a gross violation of human rights.  It is the ZANU-PF Government that has taken it upon itself to violate the Constitution and to leave innocent citizens homeless."

Mr Tsvangirai and his cronies should bear in mind that politics should make sense. It is well known that this opposition party is bankrupt of ideas on how it should continue to exist in the political arena. However, it is disheartening that this MDC-T party continues to negatively hammer the revolutionary party.

The truth being, the councilors for Chitungwiza and Epworth suburbs ordered that the alleged illegal structures in these two areas be demolished. Surprisingly, the economic blue print, Zim-Asset is against this. Actually, Zim-Asset envisaged that Government will provide about 125 000 housing units to low income earners. In fact it is imperative to note that the Government is yet to give each local authority the number of housing units and the residential stands they require.

In this view the MDC-T will not be very fair when they put the blame of these housing destructions on ZANU-PF. Chitungwiza city councilors, who are MDC-T party members, are the ones who led the demolitions.

Recently in Epworth a police office was killed by MDC-T youths claiming that the police officers were also among those who contributed to the destruction of the structures. The MDC-T family must be warned against political violence as it tarnishes the image of the country.

The MDC-T councilors should have people at heart. In reality, it boggles the mind. If these structures were illegal, then how come the municipal authorities, from the word go, ignored building of illegal structures. I believe that for one to build his or her house, they should be certified documents showing ownership of land, and also approved building plans. In addition, during the construction of those structures, I also strongly believe that there should be inspectors who examine the development of these structures before completion.

However, corruption has become prevalent in most local authorities who believe that they should advance their personal affairs at the expense of Government policy. There is need to expose all forms of corruption being done by these authorities and those involved should be punished severely.  There should be rule of law that governs such illegal activities. Truthfully, lawlessness in our country will affect economic development.

Though, these demolitions are inhuman and unconstitutional there is also need for the general public to abide by the country's rules and regulations. It is a right for citizens to have shelter, but in areas that are approved by the local authorities.

It is alleged that some politicians make false promises when campaigning. Among those promises include allocating unauthorized land to the electorates. Though it motivates the base of support from voters, this will also cause great harm to the image and reputation of the candidate who may seek those votes again in the next election.

The land barons who are responsible for the illegal settlements should compensate the people who were affected by those demolitions.

In a nutshell, the responsible authorities should go to the drawing. The public should also be advised that they should not just build structures without proper documents that clarify the ownership of the land.
