Matebele people from different stakeholders and the community at large met today 18/10/2014 in Beria Park in Johannesburg to come up with a way of responding to the harsh words spoken by the Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe in her sociological misperceptions of Ndebele men.The First Lady revealed her ignorance in her speech in Gwanda by stating that the only thing Ndebele men know is to have many wives, make many babies and then fail to develop their areas because they go to South Africa to do menial jobs. Those in attendance including people like Jonathan Moyo, Simon Khaya Moyo and others were reported to have clapped their hands in amusement and seemed to agree with the First Lady's view. However, this did not go down well with the rest of the Ndebele population which felt that the First Lady's stereotypical views about Ndebele men belittles and stigmatises the Ndebele community at large and will negatively influence scholars of Social Science to take her words as valid sociological findings about Ndebele men.
The group of Matebele people which met in Berea Park agreed to call itself the "Concerned Matebele Community" and created a petition that will give the First Lady an opportunity to apologise about her misplaced utterances about the Ndebele men. At the end of the month the petition will be delivered at the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa, which will then forward the petition to the First Lady.
All the people from Matebeleland and those who sympathise with them are requested to sign the petition. There is also a hardcopy petition which will circulate in Matebele community events to allow for those who do not have access to the internet to also have an opportunity to be part of the petition.
People can sign the petition and share the link as wide as possible attachment for others to sign as well. Together we can do more as a community. The so called experts need to be made to respect communities they talk about. Please click the link below and Sign the Petition.
