Morgan Tsvangirai at the deep end after the struggle within the struggle
04 Nov 2014 at 10:31hrs | Views
An attentive examination of the MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai's political life shows that he is a clear and present threat to Zimbabwe's national and political security. The man is simply unfit to rule, let alone to govern a country with such a deep and complex history as Zimbabwe.
The glimpses into Tsvangirai's political philosophy and thoughts lead the progressive citizens to posit that the characterization of Tsvangirai as a regime change agent is simultaneously and entirely correct and worrisome. Tsvangirai's posturing with western leaders who have imposed illegal, punitive sanctions on Zimbabwe from 2000 is clear evidence that he is not an appropriate choice for any leadership post in Zimbabwe.
Strikingly, Tsvangirai casts himself as a compassionate ex-trade union leader who has reluctantly been thrown into the fray and the hustle and bustle of Zimbabwean politics by circumstances. Casting himself as the "reluctant hero", Tsvangirai shows the progressive like minded people the true reflection of himself as indecisive and inarticulate. His references to himself, as imbued with leadership qualities, are laughable and misplaced.
Tsvangirai has no nationalist institutional memory apart from five insignificant years at the local ZANU PF office in Bindura. This lack of nationalist credentials is a further warning of his questionable motives and suitability to occupy the highest office in Zimbabwe. Despite himself, Tsvangirai expresses admiration and envy for the leadership qualities of President Robert Mugabe. His analysis of the economic predicaments faced by Zimbabwe is shallow and unpredictable.
Tsvangirai's effort to blame the effects of ESAP on the Zimbabwean economy as being the result of President Mugabe's decision-making is both importune and unfortunate and leads to the conclusion that the leader of the MDC-T is a lightweight on issues of economic importance. It seems that he believes that the Zimbabwean economic woes, past and current, should be solely laid at the door of one man and his party, President Mugabe and ZANU PF.
It is valid to use the euphemism that Tsvangirai is at the deep end as it refers to someone who is out of depth with the situation that he is facing, an accurate reflection of his character and perspectives of life. The man and the MDC-T on their own are an insignificant coterie of individuals politically; it is who they represent that is the greater threat. Tsvangirai suffers from an extreme case of academic malnutrition and premature self-congratulation.
After the recently held MDC-T congress we can see some of the party stalwarts like Nelson Chamisa being thrown into political doldrums deep in the caldera of politics. This clearly shows that the once vibrant opposition party and its leadership have lost direction.
