'Chamisa Nikuved'

The just ended MDC-T national congress has added another episode of political amusement as the curtain unexpectedly came down on the former Organising Secretary, Nelson Chamisa, who has been reduced to a mere card holder in MDC T.

Life must surely not be making sense to the losing Chamisa who has been Tsvangirai's right hand man after former Secretary General, Tendai Biti, broke ranks and posed a torrid challenge to MDC T president Morgan Tsvangirai.

Chamisa boasted and celebrated on social media over his endorsement from eleven provinces while Douglas Mwonzora was desperately holding to a much disputed United States province. To then think of a way how tables turned is unbelievable. The MDC T alleged ghost of ‘Nikuv' should surely be reigning mysteries in the party.

President Robert Mugabe once accorded the youthful Chamisa a nickname, "the supersonic minister", during his tenure of office in the Government of National Unity (GNU). Chamisa, just as Biti, was ambitious and resourceful in terms of ideas for development. That must have marked the genesis of their fall out with Tsvangirai.

For the first time Tsvangirai has indeed wittingly taken care of issues as this happened right under the nose of the unsuspecting Chamisa. Biti had caught Tsvangirai unaware, but the same could not be with Chamisa.

The former organising secretary was of the same making with Biti, and given his aspirations for the post of secretary general he posed a threat to Tsvangirai's reign. Tsvangirai had to elbow him out and put in a ‘Mafikizolo', Mwonzora who has fewer chances to challenge Tsvangirai.

However, the incoming Secretary General is synonymous with violence, something he has in common with Tsvangirai. Mwonzora played a pivotal role in rescuing the thugs that mugged Elton Mangoma. Tsvangirai has indeed consolidated power in the MDC T as he vastly controls all the party's resources.

The Chamisa scheme was well orchestrated with a contingent plan in case he found a way to the post of Secretary General. After having learnt from the Biti's rebellion, Tsvangirai made sure his position was well consolidated by scratching most of the privileges attached to the post. Chamisa would not have been influential anyhow.

Tsvangirai has indeed confirmed that he is not ready to pass the button given a plethora of his failures to deliver to his western principals. The congress gave birth to a dictator who basically controls everything and does not concede criticism of any nature.

This time he has found himself a parrot who sings praises all the way. Mwonzora blasphemously altered a church song to shower Tsvangirai with praises. He composed and recorded "Tsvangirai mutungamiri anerudo".

The MDC T is nevertheless redefining democracy to suit the top brass's insatiable appetite for power. From the onset the movement's constitution was clear that a president could only have a maximum of two terms in office.

Ironically they are digressing from what they agreed on and presented to the nation.

MDC is quick to point fingers and are ever suspicious because cheating, vote and opinion rigging is their staple diet. Tough luck Chamisa, at least you have tasted  your bitter pill.
