"The only thing necessary for the triumph of the EVIL Regimes is for good men to do nothing."
So said Edmund Burke the 18th century Irish
statesman, author, orator, political theorist and
philosopher.
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a communist.
When they came for the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I wasn't a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
Now, Joice Mujuru and her supporters including Rugare Gumbo could be saying this:
When the Mugabe came for Joshua Nkomo/Zapu, (early 80s)
I remained silent;
I wasn't Ndebele/Zapu.
When the 5th Brigade came with Gukurahundi, 1983
I remained silent;
I wasn't a dissident.
When they came for the white farmers, year 2000.
I did not speak out;
I wasn't a white farmer.
When they came for Tsvangirai and his supporters, 2002-Present
I remained silent;
I wasn't MDC.
I wasn't Tsvangirai
NOW THEY HAVE COME FOR ME,
there Is no one left to speak out.
