Mugabe, what a control freak!
11 Dec 2014 at 06:38hrs | Views
Mugabe finally names Mnangagwa his heir but he said his deputies will have no real influence as he would be firmly in charge.
"The two vice-presidents have no real big function except that they are my deputies. I can give them work to do," he said.
Mugabe is a control freak, for the last 34 years he has not only been head of State, head of his party, the chan-cellor of all the Universities in the country, commander-in-chief of all the armed forces, patron of this group and patron of that institution. He is one Head of State who has consistently insisted that there will be no cabinet meeting unless he is there to chair it. He really is a control freak who believes that everyone else is hopelessly incompetent and therefore cannot be trust to hold and exercise any meaningful power and authority.
He is 91 years old and whether he cares to admit or not he is no spring chicken. In the last week alone bleated out that Tsvangirai had won the 2008 elections by 73% and his ever loyal supporters had to hastily shout "47%! 47%!" which is what the regime said after five weeks of cooking the results. A few days later he shocked his party congress audience with "Pasi neZanu PF!" (Down or death with Zanu PF) slogan.
It is the demise of the national economy that speaks volumes of just how hopelessly incompetent in inept Mugabe is. Life expectancy has plummeted from 68 years in 1980, when Mugabe took power, to a mere 34 years by 2008. It would have been a lot worse if it was not for the donors who have funded some key public activities. It is donors who are paying for 98% of the country's medicines, for example. Government spent $ 1 million on Mugabe's birthday party and two weeks later $ 5 million on his daughter's wedding but has no money to buy life and death medical drugs for the people. And still Mugabe believes he is God's blessing to the nation and no one else can be trusted to make any executive decisions!
Mugabe has, until now, resisted appoint a clear successor to take over from him. So the very fact that he has actually named Justice Minister as his first Vice President and heir apparent is, for Mugabe, giant step. A step so physically demanding that he has been panting like a hen that has just laid super-size egg it took her all day in the Africa summer heat. And just to make sure the whole world knows he is still super Mario in charge and con-trol over everything he had publically announce that the two VPs had "no real big function".
The American Vice President has clear defined areas of responsibility. Zimbabwe has two VPs and none of them has "no real big function" other than being a serious finance burden to the impoverish public. What a control freak!
