Robert Mugabe understands the consequences of sacrifice

Torment him all you want, crucify him with all your strength, scrutinise him frequently, judge him without trial, put him in the class of Hitler to ignite municipal merriment, call him a tyrant to sell newspapers and a dictator to attract personal foreign investment. Despite all that torment and torture, President Robert Mugabe does not falter in the critical hour because he understands the consequences of sacrifice. His contributions since 1980 have been captivating and deserve our respect.
Since Independence, Zimbabwe's education levels have remained at the top of the continental listing. Zimbabwe's economy has suffered more than a decade of International isolation but it is not the worst in the world. It has been an elephant thriving to walk on top of water. Despite the remote probability of survival under those circumstances, our economy has not been swimming across the ocean but it has managed to keep its head above water. Such is the calibre of our president. President Mugabe is a tough leader who was given the task of spearheading our Independence, creating a sustainable economy and guarding against colonialism. In that regard, it is fulfilling to observe that he has discharged his duties with admirable expertise.
His people-centred policies have been the major highlight of his political career. It began with the Indigenisation laws which sought to empower black people through their participation in the management of local companies under the curatorship of foreign investors. The land reform programme was also a praiseworthy initiative not least because Zimbabwe is the only Sadc country which has retained complete ownership of its land from colonial captivity. That is why the government's land redistribution is perhaps the most prestigious and yet bitterly contested political area surrounding Zimbabwe. It infuriated the whites who had illegally acquired it. The country is one of the most literate on the continent. The list is endless and would require a separate consideration to provide a satisfactory presentation. But all these mighty feats have something in common. All of them were composed, implemented and superintended by one man - President Robert mugabe
Suffice to say, he is incapable of shifting his focus from national prosperity or looting state resources at the expense of the wider community. He is a sagacious, principled and rigorous leader best suited to a previously marginalised country. This contemporary is privileged to be under his leadership because future generations will reflect on history with amplified joy. For that reason, he is also loved by millions of people across the world. But more significantly, he is not only loved widely, he is also loved deeply.
But his initiative to save the party from plunging into muddy waters is his most recent effort. His destruction of factionalism was spontaneous and extemporaneous. The village girl whom, during her term in government, presented a motherly expression, dressed mostly in a conservative outfit, spoke with an articulate voice has fallen by the way side. Her demise tells us things about her temperament.
Her rise was not due to her astuteness or widespread approval but a simple appointment by a gracious man. Had she looked around enough, she would have discovered that the same leader who pushed her to the pinnacle of the country's highest authority also had the capacity to do the same in the opposite direction. Suffice to say, she had been corrupted by power absolutely and disregarded significant protocols.Close inspection has revealed that perhaps she lacked the wisdom commensurate with her office. That deficiency declined her a second chance at the pinnacle of the federal order. In fact, it is a miracle she survived this long.
The recent cabinet reshuffle is another indication of a judicious leader capable of leading the pack. His selection particularly of the first Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ignited miserable hearts and rejuvenated the spirits of the doubters. Another important appointment was Amai Grace Mugabe as the new leader of the women's league. Her rise was secured by millions of women across the country who requested her leadership.
Because real women are not perfect and perfect women are not real, Amai Mugabe has endured the scrutiny of the media in the last few months. But despite all these astute decisions and sagacious developments, tongues continue to wag.But who, in our contemporary is remotely comparable to President Mugabe?
