Dr Debangwa to join Mujuru 'to prevent' Zanu PF dictatorship he said - it is decades old - what an insult!

Zapu leader, Dr Dumiso Dabengwa, says he is joining forces with former VP Joice Mujuru and her supporters who were recently ousted from Zanu PF following a blatantly rigged party electoral process.

"As Zapu we are in discussions with the ousted Zanu-PF cadres, the likes of former Vice President Cde Joice Mujuru, Rugare Gumbo, Ray Kaukonde and Didymus Mutasa. We are on course as we to try to put our heads together to prevent dictatorship because we foresee that there is the possibility of it in the party. The ousted cadres should not take their fate lying down," he said.

It is every Zimbabwean's democratic right to seek justice following an injustice. One does not need to be a constitutional lawyer to question the legality of the main charge of "factionalism" that led to Mai Mujuru and all her supporters being unceremonious sacked from Zanu PF. In 2004 now VP Mnangagwa amassed the support of the majority of the party's provinces which would have resulted in him being elected VP if Mugabe had not arbitrarily changed the rules demanding that the post was to be filled by a female candidate.

Of course the change of the party constitution then was an outrage because it was clear party procedures on the changing of the constitution had been flouted. In any case the recent appointments of VP Mnangagwa and Mpolo flouted the clause saying one had to be female as the two are both male. So there is selective application of the party's constitution.

But to come back to the present case of Mai Mujuru's factionalism charge; she used exactly the same methods to garner party members' support that VP Mnangagwa used back in 2004. The later was never accused of factionalism back then and so why is she being accused?

All the other charges levelled against her of corruption, being lazy, etc. are spurious in that they are all historic and therefore being raise now to block her election. And in any case, she has never been formerly charged and convicted after due legal process.

So there is cause for Mai Mujuru and her supporters to challenge the whole electoral process that saw them dismissed from the party and/or government. Dr Dabengwa is free to join them in their endeavour to seek recourse be it by forming a political grouping to contest elections.

What every Zimbabwe is most concerned about is the presumption by Dr Dabengwa that the grouping is to "prevent dictatorship because we foresee that there is the possibility of it in the party". Zanu PF is a corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship already; the party rigged last year's elections just as it has rigged the party's electoral process this time.

People like Mai Mujuru and all her sacked supporter and other like Dr Dabengwa and Dr Simba Makoni have all turned a blind eye to corruption and political oppression whilst they were in the Zanu PF government and it is only after they have lost favour with Mugabe that they seem to notice there was something amiss with the regime.

In this case anyone who only acknowledge electoral irregularity in the recent Zanu PF elections but refuse to acknowledge that there were serious irregularities in last year's national elections values the electoral rights of these former Zanu PF members but will not value the same right of the ordinary Zimbabweans. We find such a selective process an insult and intolerable.

Zimbabwean have been fighting to end a corrupt and brutal dictatorship for decades now and all those who have been part and parcel of this Zanu PF dictatorship must never think that because they have lost favour with Mugabe they are all of sudden squeaky clean, they are not. They too must account for their role in the corruption, vote rigging and brutal political repression. By refusing to acknowledge their past wrong doing, they are showing that there are not seeking to end the corrupt and tyrannical system but rather to come up with their own mark 2 version of the Mugabe led Zanu PF dictatorship.

The people of Zimbabwe do not want another dictatorship and will fight to end this Mugabe led Zanu dictatorship and fight any new dictatorship from forming. We realise that there are some individuals who have amassed big fortunes whilst in government and they now seek use their ill-got wealth to undermine the people's search for meaningful democratic change for their own selfish gain. These activities will not be tolerated and the individuals will be held to account.
