Mujuru MPs facing recall although none have been convicted - if parliament cannot protect MPs what more citizens!

Zanu PF MPs loyal to Mai Mujuru are facing the threat of being recalled. Mashonaland Central province has resolved to have nine of the MPs loyal to Mujuru recalled and other province are likely to follow their lead.

"We held our first provincial co-ordination committee meeting in Mbire on Tuesday and it was resolved that because of the seriousness of the (Dr) Mujuru matter, we cannot continue to work with some of the MPs who were in her camp. We resolved that such MPs be relieved of their duties," said Mashonaland Central chairperson Dickson Mafios.

"Right now we don't know what they are planning as they were loyal to Mujuru. There are also rumours that they want to impeach President Mugabe if they unite with the MDC-T. So, right now we are not sure if their allegiance is towards the President and how loyal they are to Government."

Yes planning to assassinate anyone much less a head of State is a serious matter. Mai Mujuru and a few others have been accused of plotting to carry out this serious crime but there has not been a shred of evidence produced so far nor has anyone been arrested. What has happened to someone being innocent until proven guilty in a court of law?

Most of the MPs people like Mafios want recalled have not been named in the assassination plots and so one has to ask why they are being recalled. This can only be some form of collective punishment and we condemn it unreservedly.

If parliament cannot protest the basic and fundamental rights of its own members how then can the nation expect it to do any better in protecting the basic and fundamental rights of the citizens?
