Mandi Chimene has taken leave of her senses

20 Jan 2015 at 09:29hrs | Views
Recent utterances attributed to one Mandi Chimene, the Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister,  in which she is said  to have "ordered" diamond mining companies operating in Manicaland to fire MDC-T-T supporters  are a very sad indictment on the impunity, thuggery and utter lawlessness of Zanu PF officials.

As the MDC-T, we are greatly concerned and perturbed when a senior official of the Zanu PF regime finds absolutely nothing wrong with the  vices of political victimisation, intimidation and rampant disrespect of the country's constitution.

Only a few days ago, Chimene was in the news when she threatened to put in place an illegal and parallel structure to take over the running of the municipal affairs of the city of Mutare.  Certainly, something has gone fundamentally wrong with this woman who is now behaving like a renegade and misguided political missile.

On several occasions, the MDC-T has rightfully stated that it is the unmitigated corruption and rampant misgovernance of the illegitimate Zanu PF regime that is the primary cause of the unprecedented collapse of the Zimbabwean economy.

This illegitimate regime behaves like a bull in a china shop; crushing and destroying everything that it comes across. Chimene ought to be reminded that she is a minister of state as well as a legislator who took an oath to respect, obey and uphold the laws of Zimbabwe.

She cannot be allowed to operate as a loose canon who is reckless in both her word and deed. Zimbabwe is fast becoming a banana republic thanks to the thuggish and unconstitutional conduct of the likes of one Chimene. This woman shouldn't be allowed to have her cake and eat it.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign republic in which all its citizens are supposed to be treated equally; regardless of their political and religious affiliation. The MDC-T is determined to create an egalitarian society in which there are equal opportunities for all Zimbabweans; from Zambezi to Limpopo, from Tamandayi to Hwange and from Malipati to Muzarabani.

The people of Zimbabwe deserve a government that is not only legitimate but that is also loving and caring. For the past 35 years, the majority of the people of Zimbabwe have been treated like trash by the corrupt, kleptocratic and insensitive Zanu PF regime. Little wonder, therefore, that more than 80% of Zimbabweans are now classified as living in abject poverty since they are surviving on less than US$2 per day.

Mandi Chimene is a complete and utter disgrace to all peace-loving and patriotic Zimbabweans. She should not be allowed to stay in office a day longer! As such, the MDC-T hereby calls for the immediate resignation of Chimene as the Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister. In addition, she should proffer an unconditional and unequivocal apology to the people of Manicaland in particular and to all Zimbabweans in general.
