VP Mphoko, 'A man of the people'

21 Jan 2015 at 13:41hrs | Views

First of all I would like to say that I dislike "bootlickers", a group of people or person that I normally refer rash people pleasers. Such kind of people have nothing valuable to contribute to anyone's life or organization.
They are concerned with singing the right tune so as to gain mileage/favour with the boss. So I want to remove that out of the way before I say what I want to say.

I have noted that many people are or have been obsessed with the past of The Hon. VP Phelekezela Mphoko.  I done have interest in advancing my opinion on that and I don't want to speculate.

In 2010 I ventured into the previously unknown world of business to me. In 2011 it so happened that I was in Durban and when the then Ambassador to South Africa heard that I was venturing into the transport business I got a call from him asking me if I would like to take him to a wedding that was due to take place that weekend.

I was shocked because he knew the car that I drove,  it had no air conditioning even. I alerted him to the fact I didn't have an executive car, but he said it didn't matter to him. At that time I knew a friend who worked for a shuttle company, I then called  him to enquire if I can hire an executive car from them, and to my surprise he told me that the Ambassador was offered an SUV but declined. And so fire three days I drove him and his wife, from the airport to the hotel, to Pietermaritzburg, to Nkandla.

During that time I came to know him as a man who was humble and kind, and loved his wife - love was in the air as they would talk and laugh together, calling each other by the our name "Jeki". This was my encounter about the Vice President Mphoko. I saw a human, a man white cared about fellow human beings.
