MDC remains largely a united under Tsvangirai's leadership

The Herald today ran a desperate story of an imaginary rebellion being mooted against President Morgan Tsvangirai.
What is clear is that following the horrible implosion in Zanu-PF the state press wants to equalise MDC to Zanu-PF.
No one can deny the fact that of all the major parties in Zimbabwe, the MDC is the only party that held a congress where leaders were democratically elected through secret ballot. Zanu-PF did not hold any elections at its congress last year.
The Renewal Team is yet to hold its congress after so many false starts. After its congress the MDC held a number of leadership orientation programs throughout the country.
It has also begun its preparations for the next elections. While its political opponents have sought to write the MDC off it is clear that it remains the only credible political force to lead Zimbabwe from the debilitating oppression of the Mugabe regime.
State agents know that there is no way Emmerson Mnangagwa can beat Morgan Tsvangirai in a free and fair election. Faced with this reality the state agents have embarked on a program designed to destabilise the MDC.
They have devised a number of strategies ranging from bringing spurious criminal allegations against some members in leadership to agitation for rebellion against some leaders in the party.
One such strategy is the generation of false information on the leadership and thus fight one leader against another. After having failed to destabilise the last congress they hope to agitate for another congress through which they hope to destabilise the party.
The call for another congress is designed to give hope to those leaders who did not make it at the last congress that they can make it at this congress instead. We urge our leaders not to fall into this trap.
This is because calling for another congress barely four months after the people delivered their verdict displays complete contempt, disdain and disrespect for the members of the party. The Party has a mandate to deliver on and can not be a party of perpetual congresses.
Most leaders who did not make it at congress have been reassigned other responsibilities within the party and in Parliament. I can confirm that a lot of hard work is taking place in the MDC right now and this hard work will manifest itself in a few weeks time.
The MDC remains largely a united and purposefully family under the leadership of Morgan Tsvangirai.
Victory is certain
