This article was written and posted on Facebook by Nigel T. Sithole on the 15th of April 2015 following the April 2015 Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
His name was Ernesto Alfabeto Nhamuave, his name is forever imprinted in my mind. I did not know him personally, don't know if I would have liked him, I dont know if he was a good father, I dont even know what he did for a living or if he was here legally or not, I am not going to paint some b*llshit cliche "he was 2nd best human being to walk the earth after Jesus" eulogy. All I know is that he was a human being, and he was my brother.
He was killed in the last attacks in May 2008, he was from Mozambique, he left behind 3 children, today they are 12, 10 and his wife was pregnant with their 3rd when he died.
Ernesto's wife to this day, from Mozambique is still waiting for justice, when her children ask what happened to their father her only response as tears swell up in her eyes are "they burnt him alive with his own blankets my child, the South Africans burnt ur father alive", to this day only a one page docket has ever been opened and the case was closed as a cold case in 2010, yet ask anyone ANYONE in stones throw of were this incident happened in Ramaphosa in the East Rand, they will point out the two men who set Ernesto ablaze, they are said to pass the very spot were they melted Ernesto's flesh at least twice a day, seemingly oblivious and conscience free of the murder they committed 7 years ago, everyone knows them, atleast 5 witnesses STILL TODAY can identify them.
They were at least 60 people in plain sight when Ernesto was caught, stabbed and burnt. 60 people when as they held him down and his killers asked to drain petrol from the tank of a nearby taxi............IN PLAIN VIEW.
Today, the spot were Ernesto's soul left his burning body life has moved on, like nothing happened......like a man did not plead from the pits of his lungs for his life till his very last breath.........Ernesto was 35 years old. He was a man, with a family...........he was you and me. #ItsNotXenophobiaItsSelfHate
