Tsvangirai a whitewashed politician

22 Apr 2015 at 09:16hrs | Views
Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC-T is contemplating on boycotting elections owing to a vast array of wicked reasons. The leading reason is that, the party has gone bankrupt after it was suddenly ditched by its erstwhile western sponsors who discovered that the party had become a liability. In his recent visit to the US Morgan failed to raise even a cent as he was shunned by the state department. The acute deficit of leadership qualities in Tsvangirai is a major contribution to the bad omen befalling the party.

Its grassroots support base is losing grip at an alarming rate. To make matters worse, he is such an arrogant and vacillating leader that does not take advice from anyone. Despite the fact that all other party members are advocating for participation in the forthcoming elections, he remains the only stumbling block frustrating morale in the party. This has made him an irrelevant politician on the opposition political landscape in the country. Another replica of the 2005 saga is on the cards when the party first endured its first edition of a split over participation in senatorial polls. The party is fast developing cracks over participation in the coming by-elections.

In his long political life, Tsvangirai has lost three presidential elections in a row and one parliamentary poll when he stood in Buhera North Constituency. However, in the normal run of politics, a three-time loser would stand down and give chance to others. This is the prime reason why the MDC Renewal Team came into existence. Disgruntled party members could not swallow his dictatorial tendencies in the party anymore.

Tendai Biti and Elton Mangoma defied all odds and dared leading the group which wanted true democracy to prevail in the party unperturbed. In spite all these blunderous episodes that he precipitated, Tsvangirai remains adamant and considers himself the only prime member in the MDC-T at variance with the spirit of democracy. He seems to lack a correct appreciation of the elementary tenets of democracy despite his false claims that he leads a democratic movement. Tsvangirai led his MDC party for 14 years without achieving any grain of success as defined by the founding goals of the party.

He is the worst coward ever recorded in the life history of Zimbabwe. When he promised to lead the "mass action" which was popularly dubbed ‘Final Push", he stayed at home without taking part like he had pledged the generality of the public. The masses were left without a leader on the streets which eventually led to the dismal flop of the intended goals of the protests. Masses lost faith in him out-rightly. Since then the days which followed, his calls for mass actions fell on deaf ears. It's unbelievable that Tsvangirai has led a single street demonstration against ZANU-PF and President Robert Mugabe since the foundation of the MDC.

Interestingly, the most tellingly of all, Tsvangirai threatens to boycott every election and then always contests anyway under false protests and lose all. As a consequence, Tsvangirai has torn his personal credibility to shreds. Everyone knows there is rarely a link between what he says and what he does. On the other hand, how can he expect to form an alternative government if he doesn't contest in polls? It's ridiculous and a laughable folly inherent in him as an opposition leader.

He is fond of making empty threats. Tsvangirai can say things that are plain foolish. At one point in 2000, when he talked of toppling President Mugabe "violently", he foolishly committed a crime resulting for him being charged for treason. Another instant was in 2002 when he fell for an obvious ruse and was filmed discussing Mugabe's "elimination" with a shady "political consultant", who later exposed him.

Good leaders must take decisions, stick to them, and rally their colleagues behind them. For all his personal warmth, Tsvangirai just cannot do this. Most seriously of all, it is Tsvangirai's lack of foresight as he continues to watch the MDC splitting into many fragments. Think of the consequences of that divorce that he masterminded. All these were social blunders which cost him votes dearly.

Tsvangirai's performance as prime minister from 2009 to 2013 was poor. Sadly, his period in office showed up all his shortcomings. A few MDC ministers made an impact, but Tsvangirai personally made almost none. Despite having a majority in parliament and  many ministers in the cabinet, he failed to use these levers of power, while his rival, President Mugabe, out manoeuvred or ignored him time and again for lack of correct judgment on critical national  matters.

Tsvangirai is a man of numerous qualities, but he has failed dismally as a politician. He should have the minimum wisdom to admit as much, and to leave the scene with honour. It is unimaginable that during his recent visit to Bulawayo, which he believes to be his stronghold; MDC-T youths organized by Thokozane Khupe were waiting to unmask his idiocy in a demonstration. He escaped this after he got a tip to that effect.

This makes us all believe that T B Joshua's prophecy on Tsvangirai was correct that he would never lead Zimbabwe no matter what amount of effort he exerts. This country has no place for such confusionists like him.  This explains his universal rejection by the people that he once thought valued him so much. He lives in the world of imagination. It's high time that he wakes up to pave way for democracy to take precedence in his party.

It seems Morgan Richard Tsvangirai has become a Member for Deadly Confusion (MDC)!
