ZAPU attacking from all fronts

29 Apr 2015 at 10:24hrs | Views
Dr Dumiso Dabengwa the President of ZAPU approached the Electoral Court, seeking an order that will force the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to stop all electoral processes until the realignment is complete and an electronic voter's roll is made available.

As expected the Electoral Court Judge Chinembiri Bhunu on the 27th April 2015 reserved judgment which means the impending June 10 by-election will proceed despite the challenge.

The ZAPU President is seeking to have certain provisions of the Constitution, such as those providing for the ZEC to register voters and to compile the voters' roll, to be implemented fully. Dabengwa is also demanding that the commission compiles a completely new voters' roll and register in accordance with the Constitution.

The ZAPU Europe has fully endorsed the ZAPU NEC decision to participate in the June 10 by-elections. "ZAPU has been building structures all over the country, we feel that now is the time to test its readiness, participation in these by-elections is a good opportunity for ZAPU to start reclaiming its core constituencies"  Mr Christopher Maphosa said in the extraordinary PEC meeting held today 26th April 2015 in preparation for the AGM to be held this coming weekend in Leicester. (Leicester,  at 19 Westcotes Drive, LE3 0QT)

ZAPU is fielding five candidates in Bulawayo, namely Dr Strike Mnkandla in the Mpopoma-Phelandaba Constituency;  Alderman Micheal Bathandi Ronald Mpofu- Pumula Constituency; Amon Dube Nyamambi- for Luveve Constituency; Jonathan J Ndlovu for Makokoba Constituency and Casper Sibanda for Njube-Lobengula Constituency.

Mpopoma-Phelandaba Constituency.

Dr Strike Mkandla - The ZAPU Candidate for Mpopoma-Phelandaba.

Dr Mkandla is currently the Alternate Secretary General for ZAPU. He is not new to politics, Dr Mkandla stood in 2013 and he was expected to win, however as the world now knows, the elections were just nikuved by ZANU PF.

Makokoba Constituency:

Mr Jonathan J. Ndlovu
Mr Ndlovu is expected to battle it out with the likes of Tshinga Dube, the perennial loser. "I cannot undermine my opponents, but I promise to do all in my power to win in Makokoba for ZAPU" Mr Dube said. Mr Ndlovu is a calm but very thought gentlemen. Makokoba is one of the oldest ZAPU core constituencies, it is expected that it is going to be the first to be won back.

Luveve Constituency

Mr Amon Nyamambi Dube
Mr Dube is veteran ZAPU leader who is very popular in his constituency to the extent that people were knocking on his door continuously asking him to represent them. "I was humbled by the overwhelming support, of course I knew the relationship I have with the people but this came as a surprise, I will work diligently in order to meet their expectations, the honour bestowed in me is humbling to say the least" Mr Dube said.

Pumula Constituency

Alderman Michael Mpofu
Alderman Mpofu needs no introduction he is a well-known personality whose work speaks for himself.

Njube-Lobengula Constituency:

Mr Casper Sibanda
Mr Casper Sibanda is a man of many talents chief among them is the talent of persuasion. Mr Sibanda has a rare talent of creating and maintaining relationships with the electorate based on respect and people empowerment.

ZAPU is back on serious political business, ZANU PF will sweat under its skin, ZAPU is not here to play but to win votes. The ZAPU diaspora chapters have vowed to support all the candidates.

Meanwhile, Dr Dumiso Dabengwa has visited the victims of xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Dr Dabengwa thanked the people of South Africa who attended the night vigil in solidarity with the victims of xenophobia. "We have been in touch with the South African government officials to express our disgust at the attacks and to think together on how to address the situation" Dr Dabengwa said calmly to an appreciative crowd at Primrose displacement camp.

Dr Dabengwa is the only senior politician from Zimbabwe who felt the need to visit the displaced fellow Zimbabweans and other Africans to show his solidarity with them. Zanu Pf as usual has hurled insults to everybody including the South African government.
