PRESS STATEMENT FOR BUYA ON VENDORS
Bulawayo Unemployment Youth Agenda (BUYA) strongly condemns the move initiated by Minister Ignatius Chombo to Vendors from selling their wares.
The said move has been received with disgust and horror. It is an open secret that Zimbabwe has severe employment crisis and that unemployment rates sour by the hour. Vending over the years has become the major source of income and live hoods for millions of Zimbabweans.
BUYA strongly oppose such intentions as such proposed moves overlook the plight of the jobless majority in the country. We therefore call upon and implore honorable Chombo and his ministry to desist from such actions as it is in human,
BUYA as an organization of unemployed people has been touched by the utterances made by Chombo's ministry as fore sight clearly indicates scores of people will find themselves in unhealthy predicaments. Such predicaments will be characterized by symptoms such as starvation and failure to cope with the high cost of living.
Such actions to the citizens is part of decampaigning his government as the country goes for elections on the 10th of June those vendors are votes they want, at the same time ill-treating them. How do they expect people to give them their votes when the government declares war against its own people. Vendors are not stealing but, earning a living through hard means at their market areas. Government should be giving support to such people as these Vendors constitute a significant percentage of the electorate. These are the same people through whose mandate you were voted for into office.
We applaud Vendors in their effort to earn income through a hard and honest day work devoid of any criminal activity. Emphasis should be placed on cultivating entrepreneurial skills exhibited by these hard working Zimbabweans rather than be a cog on people's lively hoods.
BUYA also appeals to the government to withdraw its plan to push Vendors out of their market places,
