Another GNU beer talk

Revision of history has it that Adolf Hitler's beer hall speeches, decorated by populist scapegoats to blame economic woes on the civilian leadership, shaped his political ideology which evolved on the "stab in the back" myth.

It is labelled a myth because Hitler believed his war efforts were thwarted mainly by the business leaders back at the home front. As ambitious and impatient as he was, Hitler was setting an agenda, which indeed thrived on lies.

The lies Hitler told as some scholars have it were psychological and Hitler himself ended up losing the plot of the truth up to the time of his death. Hitler was an opposition leader and had to do everything humanly possible to get to the helm of German Reich.
With such willing purveyors, the beer hall talks resulted in one of the bloodiest holocaust the planet earth has ever known. Interestingly this political tact is still being applied by Zimbabwe's opposition political demagogues. Bearing in mind that history repeats itself, it becomes easy to cross the "t"s and dot the "i"s.

The rise of the 5th estate, which is basically the social media dominated by citizen journalism, heralds the bounce-back of Hitler's political tact. Not necessarily over emphasizing the impact, it is just the feel of history revisiting us that is interesting to note and share.

Beer talks that are mostly motivated by toxins which come with the wise waters have apparently been sources of news leads to the profession of scribes peddling the interests of opposition political parties in Zimbabwe. These talks have been taken so seriously to the extent that they are hitting the headlines on most of the private dailies, despite their gross lack of credibility and newsworthiness.

I am talking of the perceived reintroduction of the concept of Government of National Unity. Not that there is anything wrong with musing with the concept. Rather, it is the concerted manner in which the private press has been agenda setting in a ploy to find jobs for opposition political horses no longer worthy an ascot invite. The matter of alleged secret talks to pave way for an inclusive government has been awarded due prominence of course by its pushers. It is purported the talks are secretly underway with venues being interchanged at regular intervals across the African continent.

Zanu PF currently enjoys a majority in Parliament. Western and eastern business delegations have visited the country exploring opportunities. The mother continent has awakened from her slumber to pursue businesses in Africa by Africans, with Nigerian billionaire, Aliko Dangote, having been in the country recently. There is relative peace in the country. In fact, the list is as long the evidence that Morgan Tsvangirai has become a disservice to Zimbabwe's opposition politics. As such, everything appears to be going on well for Zanu PF, which begs the logic why the party would surreptitiously negotiate to dilute its mandate.

The last time I checked when this path was taken in 2008, it was news worthy and every conscious Zimbabwean was following the proceedings closely through authentic news avenues. To then have them secretly now, when the situation is even better than last time is baffling. The myth of GNU rebound has migrated from social media to private tabloids attributed to unknown sources and purported high ranking government officials who, more often than not, are figments of the imaginations of agenda-setting editors and conspicuous arm-chair political commentators.

Somebody somewhere wants to be seen to be doing something when they are virtually in a political comma. The opposition has been in the business of really opposing any government move, whether good or legitimate. Time is surely ticking and they have nothing in their record books to say to the electorate, "Look, we have been doing this and that."

A fallacy of talks going on secretly was thus espoused and no matter how senseless, somebody had to run with the stories. This lie, as was with the Hitler's case, will die with Tsvangirai. From the genesis of Hitler, his fate was predictable, he was to die a shameful death and fall unceremoniously from grace.

Leaders are God-given and President Robert Mugabe's longevity is testimony to that. There are no short cuts to success. Patience involves taking time to build political profiles. By political profiles I am not alluding to crafting of paper tigers such as the MDC-T's JUICE or the recently launched PEACE and BUILD by Joice Mujuru's political society or club whatever you name it. Instead of dedicating resources to sabotage and drawing paper tigers, let us have real development taking place on the ground for the electorate to see and then decide.

MDC-T and her siblings N, M and renewal have been around for almost two decades but not even a toilet has been built in their name. Juxtapose this organisation with ZANU PF which has built a lot of schools, hospitals and a lot more other developments. Tangibles are the only language the electorate of this day understand.

Touting reforms and change but without example of these changes and reforms, someone had better forget of ever becoming a president in this era where the electorate is so sophisticated.

Without the above real reforms and changes the MDC-T will die with Tsvangirai and the rest will sheepishly follow suit.
