Musewe calls for multiparty democracy but 'managed' into a coalition - double Dutch to escape GPA reforms

Ever since Vince Musewe declared his support for the Tsvangirai and Mujuru led coalition he has he become dangerous single track-minded. Instead of letting the facts and reason lead he has now decided to bend the facts and ignore reason in his pursuit to promote this MDC/PF coalition. He is now so desperate to promote the coalition he wants everyone in the opposition to join and he even calls it a democratic solution!

"We therefore must hasten to engender a deliberate synthesis of diverse opposition political parties into a collective democratic effort that seeks to dislodge Mugabe's dictatorship whose days are surely numbered," writes Vince.

"The idea that a singular political entity can represent all our diverse aspirations is an unattainable fallacy fraught with the potential of manipulation. It is most likely to result in the entrenchment of specific individuals with specific political motives and interests which will invariably work against popular common interests. This we have learnt from the ZANU (PF) political hegemony of the last 36 years."

So in one breath he is arguing the opposition to merge into one body to dislodge Zanu PF and in the next he acknowledges that it is "an unattainable fallacy" a single coalition can represent all our diverse aspiration. Of course we do not want another de facto one party dictatorship imposed on the nation under the pretext of a united front to dislodge the current dictatorship.

"We must do our utmost to work towards a multiparty inclusive democracy if we are to rescue our country and our future, but that multiplicity of political interests must be managed in a constructive manner to avoid unnecessary contestation and strife which continue to divides us and inadvertently gives advantage to the dictator," continued Vince.

This is what comes out of trying to twist facts and reason to suit one's nonsensical argument; he started with "a multiparty inclusive democracy" but wanted it "managed in a constructive manner" to produce a one party state just as President Mugabe has done. Of course every dictator will tell you he/she "managed (the transition from multiparty to single party democracy) in a constructive manner". Indeed, is that not why even tyrannical dictatorship as the one in North Korea still insist the country is The Democratic Republic of North Korea.

Vince Musewe is trying to stampede the people of Zimbabwe into accepting this MDC/PF coalition with his double Dutch nonsense. The truth is MDC should have dislodged Zanu PF from power a long time again if Tsvangirai did not waste one chance after another to do so. The best chance to dislodge Zanu PF was during the GNU, all MDC had to do was implement the democratic reforms already agreed in the GPA with Zanu PF and SADC. MDC had five years to do so but still failed to get even one reform implemented.

MDC failed to get even one reform implemented because the MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and they sold-out. During the GNU the two MDC factions were working together and so it is rubbish to suggest that MDC has so far failed to end the Zanu PF dictatorship because the opposition was not united in a coalition.

Zimbabwe's opposition parties have failed to end the Zanu PF dictatorship because there are no quality leaders in the opposition, period. Period! Bringing all the mediocre opposition parties together into one grand coalition will not address the quality deficiency problem. Stop recycling corrupt and incompetent leaders like Tsvangirai and Mujuru and hope against hope that they will shock us all and for once stop being corrupt and be the visionary leaders they are not.

If we want to end the Zanu PF dictatorship we have already know what we must do - implement the GPA democratic reforms. We knew that throughout the GNU so why are we wasting time coming up with all these double Dutch nonsense that will only land us with the dictatorship be it with a new name!

If the country's opposition were not so mediocre then they would know that they must be united in demanding the full implementation of the GPA reforms because it is in their own party interest and in the whole nation's interest that the next and all future elections are free, fair and credible. This is the one issue that should unite the nation because this is above petty party politics!

We are not just interested in removing the tyrant and dictator Mugabe, we want to completely dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship too. We must concentrate on implementing the GPA reforms and thus dismantling the dictatorship because as long as the next elections are free, fair and credible there is no way Mugabe or any other dictator will win. On the other hand, if we fail to get any GPA reforms implemented Mugabe can still rig the elections and stay in power. The best outcome would be that the Tsvangirai/Mujuru coalition wins the election, which is what Musewe is gunning for, leaving us still stuck with the dictatorship. It is naïve to think that President Tsvangirai would want all the GPA reforms implemented, with his checked track record of corruption and incompetence he would not want a free media taking him to task as he blunders from pillar to post.

Mugabe has denied the people of Zimbabwe their basic right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country; indeed we are in this hell-hole because of this. During the GNU we had the golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship, MDC wasted it. We have another chance now, Mugabe is under great political and economic pressure to accept political reforms, we must not waste this chance too chasing Vince Musewe's wild goose, MDC/PF coalition.

We must demand the implementation of the GPA reforms so that next elections are free, fair and credible. We must not allow those who do not like multiparty democracy sway us into disliking it too with their double Dutch. Unmanaged multiparty democracy has worked for many other nations; it will work for us too!
