PDP statement of Zimbabwe qualifying for AFCON 2017

06 Jun 2016 at 12:30hrs | Views
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) congratulates the national football team, the Warriors and the people of Zimbabwe for qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final to be played in Gabon.

The win is refreshing news for Zimbabweans as it comes when the Mighty Warriors will the take part later this year in another international tournament at the Olympics in Brazil.

The fighting spirit and teamwork shown by the Warriors at the National Stadium in Harare when they defeated Malawi should be embraced by all Zimbabweans who are now facing daily hardships as the
country economic continues to slide.

After years of near misses and heartbreak, the Warriors on Sunday finally found their winning formula and gave hope to the people of Zimbabwe that nothing is impossible in achieving your goals.

It is, however, distressing that the win on Sunday gets overshadowed by the day to day suffering that the people are going through.

Thousands of people are spending days sleeping outside banks as they fail to withdraw their salaries from the banks.

Most shops are now running out of basic commodities as the cash crunch get worse and companies are forced to halt production resulting in thousands of people being laid off from work.

The human rights situation in the country is deteriorating with the latest incident being of human rights defenders who are holding a 16 day protest against Mugabe's rule at Africa Unity Square in Harare losing their property after being harassed by state security agents over the weekend.

Last week, Patson Dzamara, the brother of Itai Dzamara, a journalist and human rights activist who has been missing since last year, was called by the police to explain how he got pictures of Itai being held in captivity.

Two weeks ago, villagers in Zhombe had their homes set ablaze by Zanu PF youths after they were accused of not attending the Mugabe's "million-man" in Harare. Last week, the police also blocked the Zimbabwe People First from holding a public meeting in Mashonaland West province.

The rise in such atrocities, corruption and the disregard of the country's Constitution is enough for Zimbabweans from the church, political parties, business, students, workers and farmers to join hands and fight Mugabe and his Zanu PF regime. The Warriors have proved to us that nothing is impossible.

As PDP, we reiterate that if you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go with others. This was proved true by the national Warriors on Sunday.

Another Zimbabwe is Possible!!!
