A Dose Of Motivation From The Motivator - The Little Boy Who Wanted To Pay His Dad!
07 Jul 2016 at 21:46hrs | Views
There was a boy who went to his dad and asked him how much he earns at his workplace per hour. The dad posed for a while wondering what kind of question was this. After a while, the dad then told his son that he earns $5 dollars per hour.
The son then said, 'Dad, can I have $1.' The dad became very furious and started shouting at the boy, 'You are an ungrateful cunning child, so you were asking how much I earn so that you ask for money! What do you need the money for since I buy you everything you need and l also give you pocket money.'
The son went into his room and came back weeping, carrying a handkerchief in his hand. He took out coins from his handkerchief, which was equivalent to $4.00. With tears in his face his said,
"Dad, you said that you work for $5 per hour. I have been banking some coins in my piggy-bank for a while. I only have got $4 that is why I was asking for $1 so that I can pay you the $5 that you earn at your workplace. I desperately need to spend some time with you, would you accept my $4 payment so that instead going for your overtime, you can spend some time with me?"
Are you not sacrificing your son's relationship for the sake of attaining material wealth? Truly successful people strive to be successful in all aspects of their lives. They live healthy lives, strive to attain financial stability, nurture meaningful relationships, develop personal mastery and accomplish their professional goals.
They understand that sacrificing for their dreams should be done all the time, but not at the expense of other important areas of their lives such as marriage, quality time with their children or health.
Have we neglected our vital relationships for the sake of attaining material wealth. Have we neglected developing our spiritual lives due to pursuing the treasures of this world?
Have we concentrated on developing the spiritual aspect to an extent that we have forsaken our families and the academic side. Maintaining a balanced life doesn't just happen, it takes us to make a deliberate effort towards balancing different aspects of our lives; continuously reviewing which aspect of our lives is being neglected.
