The stay away which never was
15 Jul 2016 at 11:04hrs | Views
The media was recently awash with articles glorifying the little known Pastor Evan Mawarire for his campaign against the incumbent government. The Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe President Shingi Munyeza has also called in the church to rally behind This Flag leader Evan Mawarire saying he represents the millions of Zimbabweans bearing the brunt of misrule. These and the likeminded people are living in the world of fantasy; the world of make belief.
Munyeza has challenged the church through its various leadership structures to come up in the open as a united force and own the initiative by a fellow man of God. This has been called for after the much publicized mass stay away has made a flop. The stay away was a total failure as many people realised that they were being used with people pursuing their own agendas. These people are using the social media in peddling lies that they are popular and the majority of Zimbabweans want President Mugabe to go.
It is a misinterpretation of reality to say that there was pandemonium when hundreds of ordinary Zimbabweans, church leaders, pro-democracy activists and business people swamped the Harare Magistrates court recently in support of the little known clergyman and ThisFlag campaign leader, Pastor Evan Mawarire. In fact there was no chaos as is being alleged by the private media and the shutdown was a sham. It is far from reality to say that Mawarire is now being seen as the little guy who is being outdone by the government. If the man had called on the stay away and had it been a success he could have been arrested and charged under the county's laws. .The man has been released because the demonstrations and the stay away were not successful.
At times people should believe what they have seen and interview the concerned person or personality. It is quite strange and unbelievable to say that the South African Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party leader, Julius Malema said Zimbabwean protestors will triumph in the ongoing protests just like they did in their fight against the white minority government that ushered in independence in 1980. This message is alleged to have been tweeted by Malema whom we all know that he is a disciple of President Robert Mugabe.
It is a fascinating paradox to say Malema has now turned against President Mugabe ; this shows the unreliability of the social media. In fact Malema is urging the South African government to speed up the land reform program. We should be careful when dealing with the social media as people can easily manipulate it to suit their agendas. Thus it borders on conjecture, innuendo and vilirification. All in all it would be valid to say that the much talked and glorified mass stay away was never successful this time around. It was a dismal failure on part of the organizers as it was business as usual. Many people have come to their senses by realizing that the country's economy can never be recovered through mass stay away.
