Zapu is listening

28 Nov 2011 at 17:28hrs | Views
Previously I beseeched Zapu not to shy away from media and publicity, and today, a few months from then, I would like to say that ZAPU is quickly coming of age. Every day when I wake up, I yearn to see news about ZAPU, and I have been beautifully surprised of late; and every day I seek out news about ZAPU progress, and recently I have been satisfactorily nourished with ZAPU news.

Some were arguing against my humble request for ZAPU visibility, those whom I have spoken with were saying that ZAPU should not boast or tell people about what it is doing, this was seen as traditionally and culturally incorrect position; some were saying that other people should talk about ZAPU accomplishments and that talking about its own accomplishments will cost it its credibility and will be forced to lie about its accomplishments.

Some were saying it is ZAPU's tradition to surprise the enemy. One has to respect differing and different view points, because the opposite of that will locate one squarely in Mr Mugabe's territory of dictatorship and noone can win there except Mr Mugabe, whom other people affectionately call the father and creator of Zimbabwean dictatorship.

However, one has to applaud ZAPU for its enlightened and courageous stand to communicate with the people, we have seen Dr Mguni, Methuseli, Dr Dabengwa and other several activists upping the tempo and the reaction from the ground has been promising.

Those who were afraid of Zanu-PF are now coming up forward to be part of the movement. As I said before, it is paramount for ZAPU to articulate its vision than to wait for its opponents to distort its vision by attributing false meaning to what ZAPU stands for.

Bit by bit ZAPU is showing and proving to be the only credible opposition and the only party in Zimbabwe with dynamic and effective policies; it is the only organisation which can implement meaningful policies which will bring about serious, genuine and meaningful change in Zimbabwe.

As we speak, Zimbabweans are afraid of each other; Zimbabweans are suspicious of each other, people may talk of democracy, change, unity and all that nonsense, however the simple truth remains, Zimbabwe is a divided country and this is the greatest and serious political issue which Zimbabweans have to address without fear and favour.

Amongst the current political players the only party which can deal with this scourge is ZAPU, not MDC and not ZANU.

ZAPU has realised that unity which is based on seeking to obliterate other people's identities is counter-productive as it yields disunity, hatred and fear. ZAPU's flagship policy of devolution of power, if taken seriously and implemented faithfully will help in dissolving the pain and suspicion currently everywhere in the country.

ZAPU should continue listening and responding to people's concerns, by so doing it will earn itself credibility and thereby winning the hearts and minds of the people of Zimbabwe.
