Distraction before destruction

15 Sep 2016 at 16:22hrs | Views
Some years ago, I was a soccer coach at a school. We played a soccer match against a neighboring school. There was a deadly striker in the opposition team whom all my players feared. I told my defenders to keep a very close eye on the troublesome striker. Yes, they did. They followed him wherever he went. The watched him closely and marked him tightly. Just before half time, another player in that opposition team struck a powerful shot past my goalkeeper, it was a goal! We were one goal down.

I began to observe something strange. The deadly striker we feared was not a threat at all, he was very ineffective on that day…..he was actually not feeling well. The coach of the opposition team had just put him to distract us. We focused on this deadly striker , by so doing allowing the little known opposition team's striker to pounce and score. We were busy focusing on the wrong person, a person who wasn't feeling well, the player who was too weak on the day…and that cost us. He was just a distraction.

Watch out for distractions. Now and then there are things which draw our focus or attention. We lose our vision and begin to focus on useless things which don't really matter. We are kept busy engaging in worthless arguments without production. We keep following a hopeless sick player and take our eyes off from the real deal, we are thrown off course and lose sight of the things which really matter. We lose direction and start losing the match. We begin to major in minors and reduce the majors to minors.

The power of focus is the real deal, a game changer! Distraction comes before destruction. Keep your eyes on the prize! Keep your eyes on the mission, clear all forms of time wasting distractions.
