MDCs portraying themselves as crybabies

I read with interest the John Makamure article which appeared in the NewsDay last week. Not much can be done to make Zanu-PF change its stance.

The MDC-T should not expect a favour from its adversary. The only logical step to take is to admit publicly that once again the party has been taken for a ride. And then to ask the people for a mandate to craft the changes it desire.

And this can only be done in a general election under the current constitution; the same one under which the MDC-T won the last presidential and parliamentary elections.

The reaction by MDC-T formation has one serious psychological drawback; they portray the two as weak crybabies. Sadc will not come to their aid, because, as Greg Linnington has said, what Zanu-PF has done may be immoral, but it is lawful. Therein lies the problem.

More votes will be lost, by continued flogging of a dead horse in public. The key thing at the moment, also understood by Zanu-PF thanks to the pain of being a pariah state, is that the elections be free and fair. Everything else can follow the script being written by the courageous Egyptian President, who as I speak, does not have a constitution.

United States ambassador Charles Ray said several times it is not the Constitution that matters, but the people who administer it.

For any serious society, no constitution should take more than three months to write. And the referendum is real another waste of time. Over 90% of the voter, including the majority of the MPs, are going to read the entire document.

The exercise will be yet another example of cynical, self cheating, profligate abuse of democracy. Just like the so called outreach programme that preceded it and whose outcomes have failed to see the light of the day in their raw from. Why?

Because they are embarrassing, and the politicians intended to tamper with them had they agreed. In a way, therefore, it is good that the whole thing has been scuttled, until we learn to that matter, honestly.

We are rapidly becoming a nation without values.

I would like to applaud Makamure for an insightful article.

Well done
