Telecel Billboard in Plumtree has wrong Ndebele language
15 Dec 2014 at 08:16hrs | Views
Dear Editor
We at Christian Changemakers are calling for Telecel Zimbabwe to remove and correct their Billboard erected at Plumtree Town.
The Billboard has wrong Ndebele spellings and we feel this is a glaring violation of our constitutional rights as the Ndebele speaking people.
Telecel Zimbabwe has offices in Bulawayo which someone will have hoped it is just but morally right, corporately just and culturally respectful for them to have engaged a native Ndebele person to proof read and edit the billboard before it is erected.
We have already made our point clear to the company and we were disappointed that the person we spoke to seemed unconcerned about the seriousness of this issue that is also a violation of our rights as enshrined in international law for instance the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities.
We hope Telecel will heed the call and remove that offensive Billboard very soon.
Sincerely
Christian Changemakers Chairperson
