Open letter from a Zimbabwean police officer
23 Dec 2014 at 19:15hrs | Views
20:04, 23 Dec - +263 7* *** ****: Sir, pliz protect my identity for obvious reasons.
I am a police officer and have a number of issues I feel must be addressed by the powers that be. The first problem is in connection with the recently held under 20 youth games.
Each policeman was supposed to get $55.00 per day for 10 days meaning to say each was entitled to get $550.00. Surprisingly each person was given only $100.00. Pliz try to dig deep to the bottom of the issue. I hope a syndicate of corrupt individuals will be exposed.
Secondly according to police standing orders, each member is supposed to pay a dollar towards recreation fund per month. Members are being forced to pay $12.00 by the 31st of December 2014 for the whole year 2015.
Thirdly members are forced to pay various amounts of money for unknown reasons and if one asks as to where the money goes, one risks being transferred to remote stations.
Lastly, I would like your favour to approach the highest office on the land and seek clarification as to why police officers engage in income generating projects during working ours instead of doing their mandate of suppressing crime.
If you go to each police station, you find women officers cooking foodstuff for sale yet there are no patrol teams in the area to suppress crime.
Unlike some years ago, it used to be a serious offence for a police officer to be seen selling sweets etc in police offices but go to any police station its now different.
