An open letter to ZBC- Abahlaziyi Abazimele

We are a group of Music Independent analysts known as Abahlaziyi Abazimele, whose main aim is to market and promote Matebeleland artists who do not get to played in Broadcasting stations.

We write to you pleading to you to consider playing Mtebeleland artworks on national broadcasters as those are  the platforms through which they can sell their productions, like other artists from some parts of the country. Yes they could be plying their trade out of Zimbabwe but they remain Zimbabweans and solely depend on ZBC for promotions. It is sad to realise that Matebelend music is selling like hot cakes in the streets of Zimbabwe but not in a single day one hears it on national broadcasters.

Our wish as the promoters of Matebeleland artists, is for Matebeleland people to be enabled the chance through the national radio stations to listen to and enjoy artworks by Mtebeleland groups frequently as it does with other art groups from other regions.

Matebeleland music for example was started some 5 years back and has now sprouted over 80 Maskandi groups, 10 gospel groups, 4 Sicathamiya groups who has been ignored by the broadcaster they call theirs, only to be recognised in foreign lands.

We believe Matebeleland artists are part of the Zimbabwean setup who has a duty to develop Zimbabwe but how can that be possible with them if the national broadcaster sees their productions not worth airing? These are the people that Zimbabwe's youngsters should look up to and get inspirations to be out of the streets, criminal life, drugs etc. These are the people who should condemn domestic violences in home, whom ZBC is denying  a chance to reach out for the affected people. Does that mean the ZBC or Zimbabwean government is happy or has a lot to gain from children's criminal life and all sorts of crimes committed in the country? If the answer is NO, then we plead with the board of the ZBC, to consider using the messengers to convey words of wisdom to the all Zimbabwean people for the betterment of Zimbabwe.
