11:28, 3 Jan - +263 7* *** ****: School-based counselling is a necessity.It is very unfortunate that Counselling is not recognised as a discipline in schools.
As a result,we continue to lose lives of our dear children who would have benefited from specialist teachers in that area.
Taking the case of Isaiah Sibanda of Pumula High, who allegedly commited suicide,a school based cousellor would have astablished why he insulted the two teachers.
In that helping relationship, such issues as grieving, bitterness and hallucinations would surface and the child got assisted to see the wrong from right. In fact, the child would be empowered to comprehend some key societal values and concepts like relationships, respect and responsibilities.
How can a child be chased away from school without an alternative corrective measure?
12:07, 3 Jan - +263 7* *** ****: The death of this boy is a cause of concern and the Ministry is to blame for failing to protect our children fully.
How can the school authorities just wilfully expel a child of that age from school?
The child was effectively labelled and I wonder how/when the teachers concerned apply their psychology and sociological fundamentals. The felt very isolated and dejected to an extent that he saw no purpose of living on this mother earth. How can people treat a double orphan that way?
The young man apparently lamented the sad loss of his beloved parents and possible insulted the teachers subjectively, crying for recognition/help only to be met with a hard judgement of expulsion.
The point here is:Lets have trained systemic counsellors/Zou trained teachers set aside in terms of slots per week to deal with presented cases.Rest in Peace,Lala ngokuthula Isaiah.
