Highlanders Basketball team has been crowned champions of the 2011 Kings Basketball Tournament after a 60-51 victory over Unicorns at the Bulawayo Courts for the Disabled.

Victory in the final was sweet revenge for Highlanders after they had lost 44-54 to Unicorns in the group stages of the tournament.

The two teams prevailed over Giants and Stars in Group B and won semi-final berths against Group A qualifiers.

Michael Zvoushe top scored for Highlanders in the final with 24 points and was named Most Valuable Player at the end of the tournament.

Unicorns' Walter Mabhena amassed 25 points in the final and was the tournament's overall top-scorer with 85 points while Zvoushe was second with 77 points.

The Highlanders women side failed to emulate their male counterparts and were beaten 37-54 by Giants in the final.
Faith Moyo top-scored in the women's final with 20 points while her teammate and eventual top scorer in the women's tournament, Geraldine Chibonda, chipped in with 14 points.

Chibonda was the top-scorer in the tournament with 24 points and was named Most Valuable Player.

Giants' Emmanuel Mukandi , who has represented Zimbabwe at basketball and rugby, was honoured with a life time achievement award while Bongani Sibanda was named referee of the tournament.

Cleopatra Manda of Highlanders Ladies was chosen as the Player's player of the tournament by her peers while the men's teams gave the accolade to Shadel Noble from Oilers.

The sixth edition of the Kings tournament marked the halfway mark of the Bulawayo Basketball Association 2011-2012 season and teams will now go for a month long Christmas break.

Spokesman for the organisers, Daniel Mombeshora, paid tribute to businessman Peter Mubi for bankrolling the event.
