Highlanders FC could soon be building its own stadium after the Bulawayo City Council pledged to avail land.
The popular team and oldest in the country is using Barbourfields Stadium as its home ground.
Highlanders turned 90 years this year.
Bulawayo mayor, Martin Moyo recently said the Highlanders should submit an application for land.
"Before I leave office I would like to see Highlanders come with a request for a piece of land so they can start building their own stadium" Moyo reportedly said.
Highlanders board chairman, Mgcini Nkolomi is quoted saying acquiring land would be their top priority in coming years.
"We do welcome the council's willingness to avail land to the club.
"The gesture comes as we are celebrating our 90th anniversary".
Highlanders long time benefactor Tshinga Dube said the club should be administered on commercial bases as it is the norm world over.
"Football is now a big time business venture. We should not think in the same way as in 1926 when the club was formed" he is quoted saying.
