Highlanders FC began pre-season training on Tuesday without head coach Erol Akbay and long standing vice captain Eric Mudzingwa.
Veteran coach Cosmas Zulu conducted the session at Barbourfields Stadium outside grounds as the Dutchman is still in his home country.
Mudzingwa is trying his luck with South Africa's struggling premiership side Baroka Football Club.
According to reports, the club allowed Mudzingwa to travel to South Africa.
"I can confirm that Eric is currently in South Africa, where he has gone for a week-long trial at Baroka after they showed interest in him" Highlanders secretary-general, Emmett Ndlovu is quoted saying by News Day.
Peter Muduhwa and Prince Dube recently went for trials with Bidvest Wits.
According to reports, only 12 of the players that were in Highlanders' books last season turned up for the training session.
