Highlanders....1 Eagles....0

HIGHLANDERS may have turned on a poor show, but the Bulawayo giants still managed to grind out an important win over a determined Eagles at Barbourfields yesterday.

Bosso caretaker coach Mkhuphali Masuku was disappointed with his team's showing but the former Zimbabwe youth international will probably take solace in the fact that "there is no bad win after all''.

"This is one of the worst games that we have played since I became caretaker coach, the guys were so lazy to run," Masuku said.

It was Bosso's ninth straight league win.

Former Black Rhinos and national team midfielder Menard Mupera scored the only goal after half an hour and what a beauty it was. With the visitors displaying some fine football Bosso won a free-kick on the far right which Lawson Nkomo rushed to take and the curler got onto the boots of Mupera who unleashed a volley that nestled on the right side of goalkeeper Edmond Chimhini's goal, much to the delight of the Highlanders faithful.

"The goal was a beauty yes but we wasted a lot of chances and had Eagles taken their chances we could be talking of a different story altogether," said Masuku.

It was nevertheless victory number nine for Masuku and Highlanders' first ever win over Eagles.

It was also Bosso's first ever goal against Eagles.

Last year they lost by identical 1-0 margins and when Highlanders visited Eagles at Gwanzura earlier this year, the two teams fought a goalless draw.

Eagles coach Partridge Muskwe surprisingly chose to vent his anger on the media and refused to talk much about the game.

"I will not talk to you because you do not write any negative things about Highlanders so get away from me," fumed Muskwe, probably in frustration of letting the proud Eagles history of not having lost to Bosso go out in smoke.

He even had the audacity of uttering some unprintable tribal slurs.
