ALL is set for the much talked about Highlanders Football Club elections set for the city tomorrow with the board declaring that systems have been put in place for the exercise. Three board members met yesterday to put final touches. Luke Mnkandla the spokesman for the board of directors came out of the meeting all smiles declaring that the ballot papers had been sorted out.
He said Jabulani Mangwana-Tshuma's appeal against being barred from contesting the committee member's position was not successful. He challenged certain sections of the constitution that had nullified his nomination by a member who had not been a member of the club for the required period.
"He was not successful," that was all Mnkandla could say.
"We are now ready for the elections and its all systems go on Sunday and we hope the exercise will go smoothly as we have grown accustomed to that as the Highlanders family," said the former popular radio personality.
He said the meeting was open to all members and even those who had not attended last Sunday's annual general meeting. But he said they were not happy with people prioritising elections.
"The annual general meeting is an important event of the club. We expect all members to come to it and chart the way forward for the club. It would be unfortunate if we have more people coming just for the elections," said Mnkandla.
There are reports that some candidates are planning to bus voters from Plumtree, Gwanda, Harare, Beitbridge and Tsholotsho.
"We encourage fair play in the true Highlanders spirit. The winner should be the club," said the Bosso elections boss.
The incumbent chairman Themba Ndlela is contesting against Peter Dube, former club secretary and businessman, Mandla Moyo.
Andrew Tapela is seeking a second term as Highlanders secretary. He is pitted against Donald Ndebele and former manager Emmett Ndlovu.
In the committee member's race incumbent Wisdom Mabhena will take on Dumisani Mabhena and Charles "Six One" Moyo.
Bosso finished seventh on the log and is facing serious financial challenges.
There is a clamour for change within the club while other members believe the present executive deserves another chance.
