THE long awaited Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between perennial rivals Highlanders and Dynamos is set for Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday following the decision by the PSL to declare a two-week mid-season league break which will allow the Harare side to play catch up.
DeMbare have four outstanding matches, as they are yet to meet Highlanders, CAPS United, FC Platinum and Hwange.
The game against Hwange was nullified after the club's bouncers assaulted Hwange gaffer, Nation Dube and his assistant Meebelo Njekwa.
The PSL has resolved that all unfulfilled fixtures in the first half should not encroach into the second part of the league and hence the mid season break.
PSL board member fixtures Tavengwa Hara said Dynamos and Highlanders are likely to square off this weekend, saying the second half of the season could not start without all the teams completing their first half fixtures.
Most teams will have played 15 games this weekend, with the next fortnight seeing league champions Dynamos catching up with the rest of the teams. What that means is DeMbare will have to play at least a midweek game starting Wednesday and a weekend game.
Dynamos' involvement in continental club tournaments has seen the club falling behind in fixtures. The club has played 11 while most teams will be playing their 15th game today.
"The match between Dynamos and Highlanders maybe played this weekend as all fixtures have to be fulfilled before we start the second half of the season. We are, however, yet to set the exact fixture dates," said Hara, adding that the PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele will release the exact fixtures tomorrow (Monday).
Sources at PSL said Dynamos is likely to face either FC Platinum or Hwange in a midweek fixture and then square up with nemesis Highlanders at Barbourfields.
The league champions will then have another midweek fixture and then end the first half against bitter rivals CAPS United.
The game between Dynamos and Highlanders has been mired in controversy as it has been postponed several times.
Initially the game had been scheduled for Week 5 in the league fixtures but was postponed as Dynamos was playing in the African Champions League.
The game was then scheduled for last weekend but discontentment from some PSL teams led to the cancellation of the game.
The clubs felt the two teams were getting "preferential treatment" as the game was played on a weekend when PSL rules had it that all postponed games should be played during midweek.
